CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

Dashboard is getting soft and shiny and pieces of it come off very easily. It reflects onto the windshield and makes it very difficult to see when the sun is out.

I just bought this Toyota Camry and didn't realize until after that the dashboard is very sticky and gets really shiney as the temperature rises. This causes a glare on the windshield. After researching I found out that Toyota issued a extended warranty. However they said that it expired on 5/31/17 and they cant do anything. This is a safety issue and I believe that it should be recalled and they should replace the dashboard. The car only has 68370 miles and has a long life. I do feel that my life is in danger with this known problem that they don't want to fix. Please help!!!!! this issue is all of the time.

Form #2 request #215013 chat transcript (E-mail)...".for replacement under a recall program but was told the recall has expired". another consumer posted Aug 8 2019 "defect of the dashboard for the 2007 avalon gulf specs [xxx] to be changed. One employee told me that they would not be changed because they did not contact me and when I was not convinced by his answer, another employee came to me and said that the offer of replacement had ended and also they are not calling to be replaced but the customer who goes to them to claim the replacement is approved after consulting the main company". my 2007 Camry has approximately 57,000 mi. I owned a 2nd vehicle until it was donated May 2015. "everytime" I go in for service maintenance, because of low mi and excellent interior and exterior, I am approached by a salesman to purchase my vehicle. I have owned Toyota Camry's since 1989. Where is the integrity, ethics, loyalty, respect, safety and compassion for consumers? how in god's name is it legal to sell a vehicle to a consumer with a known defect? how in good conscience can a dealer, salesman sell a vehicle with a known defect with potential hazard to the consumer's safety? I never thought Toyota motor Corp would be in the same category as all of the manufacturers which have historically deceived consumers. Toyota made promises with a dashboard warranty program that was created after two class action lawsuits were filed in 2014. The automaker concedes the dashboards can melt but says the problem is only a cosmetic issue, not a safety issue, hence the reason no official recall has been ordered. According to the lawsuit, Toyota won't be able to repair all the vehicles within the 10-year time limit of the secondary coverage warranty enhancement. Primary coverage of the warranty program expired on May 31, 2017. The lawsuit...".form #3 to follow information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Car dashboard when exposed to sun, gets sticky and glossy. The reflection on the windshield creates hazardous driving condition. The dashboard material appears to be vinyl. This should be investigated, Toyota motor co. Did send a letter informing that they are aware of this situation, but has no resolution or time frame in solving this problem. This is unfair to consumers.

A "sticky" and cracking dashboard from Florida heat causes a huge glare on the windshield. This makes visibility extremely limited while driving. I have not used any cleaning or polishing products on the dashboard. I am convinced it is just from high temperatures and humidity over time. After noticing the problem I tried to reduce direct sunlight on the dashboard by using windshield covers; however, the dash still remained "sticky" and the covers just simply stuck to the dash. The issue used to only occur when it was hot outside, but now the dash has been "melted" so much so that it has become glossy. Which means even in cooler temperatures the dash reflects any sunlight and causes a glare on the windshield. Again, this issue highly decreases visibility while driving. It is often difficult to perform the easiest maneuvers simply because you cannot see. I have even bought expensive polaroid sunglasses to somewhat reduce the glare, but visibility is still difficult. I am concerned about this issue, because it can easily cause an accident which could have been prevented. Please let me know the best way to handle the situation. Thank you for your help.

The dashboard is literally melting away.there is a horrible sticky, gooey substance that is oozing out of the entire dashboard.you cannot touch or clean it, and when driving in the direct sun, it creates such a reflection on the window that you can hardly see. I have approached Toyota on this issue several times, only to be told that they have never heard of this and that the reason the dashboard is melting is because I live in Texas austin.
