My wife bought a 2006 Corolla LE new in 2006. Within the first year of owning it she was driving and the car just stalled in the middle of taking a corner in a high traffic area. We had it towed to a Toyota dealer and they said it was the ECU unit and changed it as a warranty item. In August 2013 the car started having a similar problem. It would stall whenever the right blinker and brake were applied at the same time. Our mechanic stated based on the diagnostic codes the ECU needed to be reflashed and said need to go to Toyota service center for it. He stated he spoke with someone who works at Toyota and they do it all the time when they get these codes. We brought it to a Toyota service center in West Covina, CA and they came back saying they needed to replace the ECU unit and cost was $787.00. I called Toyota and informed them this is the second time tis has happened since we bought the car. I never heard of having to replace the computer so often in a car that is only 7 years old. I never owned a car that needed the ECU replaced once never mind twice in less than 7 years. They opened a case and escalated it. Hopefully they will cover this since it appears more of a defect.
