CarComplaints.com Notes: Beware of the NHTSA complaint data for the 2007 Corolla. It is almost certainly misleading.

The problem with NHTSA data for the 2007 Corolla is that for months on end, the news media repeatedly told the public that several Toyota models have an unintended acceleration defect, & to go to safercar.gov (the NHTSA's website) to file a complaint.

So, the NHTSA received a disproportionate number of complaints about Toyota unintended acceleration issues because of the national news media attention, to the point where now the NHTSA data is unreliable taken in context with any other vehicle that did not receive national news attention.

CarComplaints.com typically receives more complaints per day about vehicles than the NHTSA does, but the news media did not repeatedly say "go to CarComplaints.com to report your Toyota acceleration problems" like they did about the NHTSA -- so although we have less complaint data than the NHTSA for the 2007 Corolla, our data for the Corolla is a far more statistically accurate representation of the Corolla's reliability than what the NHTSA data shows.

It was normal sunny day and smooth traffic I was driving Toyota Corolla(2007) on I-295 North in NJ and was on leftmost lane @ around 70 mph in hamilton area near exit 65. Then suddenly it went out of control spinning around on highway. It went spinning from left most lane to right shoulder spinning 2-3 times. Luckily no body was injured and no other vehicle was involved but my car had to be totaled I requested car company (Toyota) to properly inspect the vehicle if it had any issues with software and also brakes as there was no reason for spinning while driving around 70mph. Considering the way car spun at that time it was evident locking of front wheels suddenly may be the one of the reasons. Company never contacted me back again they had promised to get back to me after inspection was done by company inspector/engineer.

Problem: Squeezing / grinding noise in brakes which sometimes happens as one drives slowly and brakes. The problem started after I had the car for 2 and 3 quarters years. Toyota technician looked at the problem 2 times and mentioned that everything is normal. After that a Toyota customer service representative called me and mentioned that the brakes are fine and that a certain repair at my cost could be done. When I asked the Toyota customer service representative to explain in writing what the exact problem is and how to solve it and she agreed to do so. Previous communication had also be in writing. But Toyota has not done so as to date. Please note that the exact model is Toyota runx, based on Toyota Corolla 4 doors.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the computer in the vehicle failed and had to be replaced. The computer is related to the gears and power windows. Whenever the gears are being shifted, the vehicle would shake severely. The contact had to get new brakes and rotors installed four times since the vehicle was purchased. In addition, the vehicle received numerous alignments because the steering wheel would shake when the brakes were applied. Two sensors also caused the engine to stop running. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer for repair numerous times, but the failures still persist. All of the failures began five months after the vehicle was purchased. The failure mileage was 4,000 and current mileage was 60,000.

I was driving coming from my sister in laws house at grandview, Washington leaving around 7:40 am heading home to seattle going West to interstate-82 on Friday, August 22, 2008 with my three kids. I was using my cruise control and stayed on the left lane for about 20 to 30 minutes. We just left yakima city and headed to the fred redmon memorial bridge at around 8:30 am going up hill, in which I saw two tractor-trailer far in advance and both were driving on the right lane. The left lane was open as I drove in to the bridge but then the other tractor-trailer made a change to go to the left lane. I was probably 50 feet away when the other tractor-trailer made the change to the left lane. I was cruising about 50 to 60 mph in which I have to put my right foot on the brake pedal. At first, I thought I step on my gas pedal because the car did not slowdown a bit. I pressed the button to turn off the cruise control and hit the foot brake again and again. I then realized that my brakes did not work. As I was getting too closed to the left lane truck, I panicked and made a change to go to right and rear-ended the Volvo tractor-trailer.
