Since delivery, my new 2010 Corolla has had a steering problem. It veers or wanders to the left or fight randomly and unexpectedly at highway speeds (65-75mph). Not the alignment. Very dangerous if there are other vehicles beside you. Is not due to the wind - occurs on windless days. Have owned 25 cars in 50 years, some Toyota; this is the worst - will not stay straight; both dangerous and fatiguing to drive. Must fully Focus and make constant corrections to track straight. Recall! unsafe!
At highway speeds, car steers as if reacting to gusting wind from either side. Steering very sensitive when attempting to correct. This has occurred since I purchased the vehicle new with 11 miles on it.
I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla that frequently has a strong gas smell and on 3 different occasions the steering has given me a sense of control loss similar to the sensation of hydroplaning.
While traveling at about 50 mph the gauges went instantly from 50 to 0. at the same time multiple warning lights came on the dash. The car still had power when stepping on the gas, lights and radio were still on. When attempting to turn to get off the road, then steering wheel clicked and locked. There was no steering. My brakes did work. It was as if the car had shut itself off and then back on, but didn't unlock the steering. The car was new with less than 300 miles on it. This was the first incident of this kind, I had no other problems with the car until then. The car was towed to the local dealership. It was tested the next day & I was told it was a speed sensor, but the sensor was not replaced. They connected it to the computer and reprogrammed it and said it was good to go. I refused to accept it until they could tell me why it happened and what they had replaced to guarantee it would not happen again. They were unable to do so and ended up replacing my car with a new one.
When I drove my 2010 Corolla from the dealer it had five miles on it. Within one half mile I realized that the car wandered left and right and needed me to steer left and right to keep the car in the center of the road. I knew right away that the problem was the caster adjustment was set so the caster was faced forward. I brought it back and the service mgr said it was designed to have the caster set forward by two degrees. I am 72 and a car guy. A forward caster will cause the car not to be able to steer straight. It was to be driven by my grand daughter who has 18 months driving experience. We brought it in for service to have the caster set to 'follow' rather than 'lead'. the service people said it was set to Toyota designs of two degrees forward. That is the problem along with, maybe, something in the electronic controls that might be adding to the problem. Someone is going to get killed. If Toyota doesn't speak to this and correct it I need to have this car replaced by an amish horse and carriage. Toyota has introduced a new feature that is deadly.

This was not a failure, but more of a constant problem. My 2010 Toyota Corolla has a serious tendency to want to wander in the lane. I drive to work everyday on the express way, about 25 miles. It requires constant monitoring and adjustments to keep the vehicle tracking straight. It actually feels like the car is always on a slippery road, even when the pavement is dry. As speeds increase the problem increases; it is always present. Never worse at one time than another. I have not reported this issue to the dealer, but I have an appointment today at 12:30 for the gas pedal recall, I will inform them of the issue as well.
I brought a new Toyota Corolla 2010 in mid January, and have experienced a possible steering problem for a couple of times when the speed was more than 60 mph. The latest one was in the afternoon of Feb. 26, when I drove on a highway with a speed of about 65 mph. It seemed the steering was very sensitive and difficult to control - a small movement in steering could easily cause the car to go to another lane. The situation became more apparent when the wind was strong - I felt the car was not stable at all.

Correction and addition to my 1st complaint. Yesterday I had to drive my husband home from the hospital and unfortunately I had to get on the hwy. The car road home was more worrisome than his surgery! the eps in the 2010 Corolla is just as dangerous as the other Corolla I had before it. Its blowing all over the road, taking me into other lanes, I almost hit other cars on the hwy, my husband got all distressed in the car and begged me to get him home so he could get out of my car which he now has dubbed a death trap. The car basically veers in and out of the lane your in. Its like trying to drive in the road ruts only there wasn't any because our stretch of hwy had just been paved with black tar and all was flat and nice on the road surface but the car still took me all over and im not alone when I scream to you please im begging you to come to my house and drive my car!!!!! I can guarantee you will recall this model as well!!! this is dangerous!!! no person should have to get see to there car blowing around like a kite in the sky. Im begging you please come drive my car!!! this is dangerous and I feel like im going to die in this car.
Bought new Corolla 2010 for my wife about three months ago. I thought right from the first drive that its steering wheel was very sensitive, that is, even small motions of the steering wheel appear to get amplified to relatively larger directional changes on the moving car. However, my wife did not think so. Typically, however, she drives it at slow speeds, like, at most 40 mph, as she avoids highways. We have never driven it at higher speeds like 65-70 mph where I understand some other Corollas start meandering. I don't know if it is the same problem I am describing above. But after having read about similar problems to 2010 Corollas, which are recently so much in the news, I thought we should report it too.
My 2010 Toyota Corolla will not drive in a straight line. You have to constantly keep moving the steering wheel to keep the car in the center of the road.
I own a 2010 Corolla-it is at the dealer again. Now I have heard there might be a problem. I was taking my car to the dealer before any of this news came out-asking them to check the front end. The cars keeps going in other lanes and has almost caused an accident. But the dealer insist there is nothing wrong with my car. Help at this point I am scared of the car. In addition, the power steering and braking system is making strange sounds, such as hissing, pings and cracks. I took the car to Toyota dealership and mechanic stated it is probably the electrical system. He also stated that Toyota will probably recall car due to complaints with powersteering. Due to the above issues and recent recalls on my car, my wife and I don't feel safe and secure in car. We are scared of dying like other Toyota owners have in the past. He also stated that when driving and trying to engage the brake pedal he had to apply a lot pressure on the pedal so that it could decrease the speed. Bought Corolla new Jan 2010. The current mileage is 2850 miles. The car will not go in a straight line while driving over 55mph. The car drifts to either the left or right without turning the wheel. Car feels as if you're driving in hard winds causing lane shifts without turning wheel. One must keep both hands tightly gripped to the steering wheel and continually over correct the wheel from left to right or right to left to keep the car traveling in a straight line at higher speeds. This problem occurs while driving on open roads. Took car to dealer, tech test drove car while I was a riding along and found car to not drive normal. After test drive tech tested car, car was checked in shop and found to have no problems within their testing capabilities. Wanted to keep car for further testing because he didn't know how to fix car but noted something was wrong with car. 4 days later I got a call from service department assistant manager stating that Toyota was aware of problem and they had no fix available for my cars steering. Was told that they didn't know when car could be fixed. When I ask for a loaner car until my new Corolla was repaired I was told they would have to call me back. I was called back within 10 minutes and told no loaner car would be given. After that call I got another call back from the same person stating that they were going to test drive my car too see what she thinks about the car. Within 5 minutes I get another call stating that she, the service department assistant manager, was in my car right now doing 70mph and there was nothing wrong with my car. Summed up: From 12:30pm to 2:30pm, the same day, I was told car had a problem that tech could not fix to there is nothing wrong with your car.. the next day I got another call from the dealers service department stating that some other tech had drove the car and nothing was wrong with the car. I was told that is how the car drives and I would just have to get used to it.
2010 Toyota Corolla -- steering problem. Very difficult to keep car within travel lane when driving at highway speed. This is not related to wind gusts but occurs at all the times. Feels like there are dead spots in the wheel and there is little to no road feel feedback. The car does not track straight on its own but requires constant steering corrections. I am 69 years old and have owned and driven many cars/trucks including my 2002 Toyota avalon and my daughter's 1993 Corolla and have never before experienced the type steering issue that we have with our new 2010 Toyota Corolla. I believe this to be significant safety issue and if a driver in not paying 100% attention and constantly correcting to keep car within the travel lane the result could be disastrous. Toyota needs to be required to fix this steering issue with its new Corolla's. [this occurs all the time - but your form forces me to enter an incident date so I am just using Jan 1, 1901 to proceed with the form. Updated 03/19/10.

Ongoing steering problem. At speeds above 30 mph the steering becomes overly sensitive causing the car to drift right and left and not track properly. Have to constantly adjust steering to stay in a straight line. No problem with vehicle alignment or tires. Just steering problem.
