Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

When making a right turn out of a parking lot my steering wheel locked. I turned off the car for about 5 minutes and when I turned it back on everything was fine. It is important to note that no indicator lights came on. The next day I took the car over to the Toyota dealership. At this point the steering was fine. The dealership charged me 99 dollars and did a diagnostic, which turned up nothing. Assuming that the car was ok, and this steering wheel lock was just a one time thing I continued to drive the car as normal. A few days later the same thing happened. I went back to the dealer and they still couldn't find anything wrong. This steering lock keeps happening to me. The wheel locks, I turn off the car, I turn it back on and everything is fine. My biggest fear is that the wheel will lock in a place where I don't have the ability to pull over and turn the car off and on to get the wheel unlocked. After doing some research online I found that there are hundreds of people with the same problem. I contacted a independent mechanic who said the problem is most likely in the electric power steering motor. The part alone is about 1400 dollars. I know there are service bulletins out to dealers about the electronic power steering but I don't know if this is covered. I don't think its fair that I have to pay for a repair that is Toyota's fault. There are multiple problems with Toyota's and for that matter almost all car companies electronic power steering system. Why are these system still allowed to be used. The only one to suffer in the consumer. Anyway, my car is a 2010 Toyota Corolla le. Please let me know is there is a recall or a service bulletin to fix this problem.

I wasted my 2hrs of time by traveling in traffic. Need to know, when dealer will get parts and fix it.

My wife usually drives the car and has complained several times about the ride and steering of the car. On this day I was driving on a freeway at 60 mph when I noticed that car does feel loose and can become hard to control. I am a senior mechanical engineer and work on loads and dynamics in aerospace systems. The car feels like it has a poor steering system, and bounces back and forth in a dead band and becomes hard to control. This could be an explanation why the front tires wear at an excessively high rate.

The incident happened several more times. Updated 11/13/14

At speeds over 50 mph the 2010 Corolla S has steering wander - does not hold center very well - constantly have to correct direction to keep it straight - gets tiring after a while - just figured there was nothing I could do about it so I just lived with problem until reading an article about the NHTSA checking into problem so I told [xxx] in service dept. At dry ridge Toyota in ky. About problem ( Oct - 2013 ) and he said he would check into it and see if Toyota would offer a fix - no response from Toyota after over 6 months its now ( may - 2014 ) I have checked back every month with [xxx] but he says still nothing from Toyota - so im now filing this complaint with NHTSA.......... also the speed control jerks car very hard as it reengages while going up a hill sometimes approx. 25 mph to 45 mph......... also the antilock brakes cause the front end of the car to jump up and down when trying to stop on slick rainy or snow roads at slower speeds. Thank you. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I've been driving this vehicle now for almost 5 yrs. Since the day I got into it, the thing walks the highway (40 mph+) continually. On a trip over two hours, you start to get exhausted from the continuous weaving back and forth, like a side wind keeps alternating from left to right to left to right ect... alignments, new tires, ect changes nothing... something is definitely wrong with either the design of the front end, or the steering. I just want to add my name to the complaints, before this problem is actually proven to be faulty and kills multiple victims. After 70K, tired of a vehicle which wears on one's nerves...

At highway speeds (55-70 mph) vehicle can't be driven on a straight line. As soon as you think it is going straight, it veers either to the right or left forcing constant corrections of the steering wheel. Sometimes you find yourself micro correcting it from side to side trying to find the center. I can categorize this issue as very distracting as too much attention is being diverted only to keep this car inside safe distances from other cars.

I made a left hand turn and was hit on the front passenger side. The force of the hit spun my car in a full circle, damaged the entire front of the frame, knocked off the front bumper, caused the trunk to open, and caused severe damage spanning the whole front end of the car including the driver's side door which I was unable to open. During this accident, the airbags did not deploy. The estimated cost for repair for my Corolla was 13,000 dollars.

After starting the engine and driving approximately 100 feet, the dashboard lights: ABS, anti skid symbol, battery and oil lamp appeared. Lost power steering, windshield wipers ceased, it was raining heavily. Drove approximately 6 miles to home. The next morning, car started without any issues, drove approximately 100 feet, the same lights appeared and power steering again ceased. Able to drive approximately 5 miles to work. Made an appointment with dealership for after work. Car immediately started with the above mentioned lights appearing again and without power steering. Drove approximately 2 miles, all power in car stopped, and car immediately stopped. Was unable to restart car, car was towed to dealership, where the service member stated the car needed a new alternator. When asked why this would occur with only 25000 miles, the service department was unable to give me a response. The alternator was costly. I am the original owner, purchased this car in July, 2009. Service my car regularly as suggested in manual at a Toyota dealership. I am disappointed with needing such a costly repair as I have never experienced this in the past with other makes of cars. All of which I have owned for 8 to 10 years each.

There was no incident as of this date however there could be if something is not done. My 2010 Toyota Corolla has a glitch in the power steering and Toyota does not have a recall on it in the United States. I have seen an article in the paper regarding Toyota recalling 185,000 vehicles in Japan and europe due to a power steering glitch. I have spoken to Toyota in California about my car and my concern but they just take my information and say that they'll put it on record. This is not acceptable to me. I know of another customer of village Cadillac and Toyota in homosassa, Florida (which is where my car was serviced) had the same problem. Also the previous owner of my Toyota expressed a concern about the power steering. I do know that Toyota changed the power steering to an electrical type power steering in late 2009 but changed it back to their old system by late 2010, this tells me they knew there was a problem and this is 2013 and there's been no recall yet. Does someone have to die first? I really would appreciate your help in this matter.

I was driving at approx. 65 mph and due to an off-center feeling and a lax steering wheel, lost control of my vehicle. Under no fault of my own I subsequently crashed into a guard rail, spun across lanes of traffic, and did not have any airbags deploy despite losing my front bumper, front bumper support beam, radiator, fans, headlight, had my door pinned in, hood crushed, and missing my passenger headlight. The vehicle was not totaled since no frame damage was done and none of the airbags deployed.

I recently purchase a 2010 Corolla. The car does not handle well at highway speeds. When driving the car veers to the left and right with a need to correct the position of the car. Going at highway speeds and having your car sway from side to side is scary and it makes you feel that you can crash at any moment if you don't correct the steering wheel fast enough.
