Master cylinder failed - have to slam the brake pedal all the way to the floor and then I was still unsure if the car would actually stop. Had twin 3 year old boys in the car, scared for our lives. Dashboard lite up like a christmas tree. Second shop diagnosed it as a failed master cylinder. Parts plus labor = $3,066. I work for the school system and we don't have that sort of money. Will tow it home, hopefully find a used part, and try to replace it ourselves. The only reason I'm logging a complaint (because cars need repairs and I understand that) is because I'm seeing the exact same complaint over and over again "master cylinder Toyota Fj cruiser 2007". how can so many of the same complaints on the exact same vehicle go unheard? please help, make the master cylinder recall apply to the Fj cruiser. It obviously should be included. Thank you for your time.

Windshield wipers have failed to work for long periods or have to play with switch to work right. Took car in years ago while under warranty to fix and resolved problem for a few years but is now reoccurring. Also drivers side door window switch intermittenly works. I dont know if this is connected to wiper switch but have seen recalls on other Toyota that have this problem and had a recall but none for fj. Specifics turn on car, turn on slector switch for wipers "slow thru high it dont matter". wipers dont work.

Both passenger and driver air bags did not deploy at the impact of a head on collision which totalled the car my son was driving, and he sustained head, back and neck injuries because of that.the car locked up after the crash, disabling him to exit the car and had to be pulled out from the passenger side of the car.

When trying to put my car in reverse I could not move the gear shift lever. It was frozen. The ABS, all the trac annunciator lights stayed on. I had to bypass the gear shift to be able to move the car. I went on line to look up possible causes and was told to contact some of the auto parts companies like auto zone etc. And have them hook up their computer tester to troubleshoot this problem. I haven't had a chance to take it by yet.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Fj cruiser. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the instrument panel lighting and gauges began to fluctuate erratically as the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised that the ABS system would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. In addition, the instrument panel lighting would not illuminate and gauges would not provide a reading. The contact was able to restart the vehicle but the brakes would not respond. After shutting the engine off the vehicle could not be restarted. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the battery was melted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised that the battery, wiring harness, alternator and the fuse box would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

I lease a Toyota 2007 Fj cruiser which caught on fire. Fire was to steering column area. 911 was called /police and fire responded. The fire was visible from the blinker arm hole. Fire was extinguished by myself. Toyota til this day has not told me the cause. It has been in the dealership since. I don't want the car. Toyota has been called numerous times. Yet no one gives me an answer. I don't want this to happen to any Toyota owner. A guy named troy offered me a $1000 dollars to be on my merry way. I don't want it. Especially after their coverup.

  • Manual transmission

I own a 2007 Toyota Fj cruiser with a manual transmission. The throttle management software is a joke at best and dangerous at worst. The vehicle engine RPM will not go below 12-1800rpm when the vehicle is moving unless the speed is somewhere below 5mph. This can be very annoying at times and dangerous at others. Driving on ice, towing a trailer, driving in hilly terrain. There is no engine braking available at any speed above 5mph. When the software does finally close the throttle completely it does so abruptly causing a jerky condition that can lead to loss of control on ice. At 20mph, for instance driving in a school zone, the throttle cannot be set to maintain a steady speed. The vehicle alternates between accelerating and almost complete throttle shut off. There is no in between. I have seen this same behavior when driving off road in steep terrain. Not only is it annoying but it is dangerous. I have had the vehicle to Toyota twice and they claim it is normal for this model and that there is nothing that can be done. The other thing that it does is hold the last RPM for several seconds when shifting between gears. Not so much dangerous as annoying and causes excessive wear on driveline components and is also extremely wasteful of fuel.

Reported problem with backup sonar several times and was ignored because they could not make the vehicle fail (the rear end need to be in the sunlight or on a really hot day to fail). Finally the last time I took it in it was failing almost all the time so after fighting with them for months it was fixed. Fail mileage was approx. 20,000, currently has 32,200.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Fj cruiser. While driving 80 mph, the contact noticed that the cruise control stopped working. He also noticed that the speedometer was moving constantly. He pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and noticed flames coming from the back seats of the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire and a police report was filed. The contact did not notice any differences beforehand. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 9,800.

While traveling a freeway speed the vehicle engine shut off without warning and disabled the power brakes and steering. I verified that the vehicle had 1/4 tank of gasoline and all of the fuses checked out ok. Called Toyota roadside service and they dispatched a tow truck and dropped of vehicle at the nearest dealer.
