Purchased the Rav4 from a local used car dealer in France. Took it to the UK and ran fine. Started it up in the morning and the timing belt broke, that was what we thought. Car was towed to a local garage and they went for the valves etc which were bent. They discovered that the timing belt was not the problem, but a part lower on the engine had come loose and caused the damage to the belt. The part looked like a belt guide which had come loose.
The other problem which we had was a MOAN coming from the engine every so often. Did not seem to make a difference with RPMs nor was it constant. Nobody seemed to figure it out. I am sure that what ever it was would cost us even more money to fix..
Anyway it was a used car and you take what you get. We unloaded the thing and ate the 2000 plus euros as the garage insurance said that even though it was within the 3 mo warranty, the miles had exceeded the allowed amount (in the fine print).
So much for the RAV 4. So much for Toyota,s, I am not a fan.
