Heard a loud sound in the rear of the vehicle while driving down the road at about 30 mph. Sound hear again while turning into my driveway. Later, while on the highway, the vehicle seemed to be swaying. Took the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection, which revealed that the rear sway bar links were loose and required replacement. One rear shock was leaking and both rear shocks needed replacement. I don't understand why sway bar link defect is not covered by the manufacturer since this is clearly a product defect with potentially serious safety consequences.

2010 Rav4 with only 28000 miles on it has had two recalls for rear suspension. The second one (G0V NHTSA 16V-596) has yet to be performed as the parts are on backorder. This is a serious recall in my opinion and Toyota needs to address the issue with more concern. I am having issues where the ride quality has diminished since the first recall was performed. Also, I have had new tires placed on the vehicle and am wanting the recall performed quickly in an effort to not accelerate tire wear from bad alignment. I also am concerned about the safety of this vehicle and limit my wife as to how far and fast she can drive it. It is her primary car.

Both rear stabilizer bar connector links snapped off toward the bottom of each link right above the threaded portion indicating that is a weak area. This was not due to rusting, the links just snapped off in the same location. I worked for another dealership in the same dealer group as a service manager and the staff there told me that this is a product problem and they had replaced at least 55 pair of these links. I called Toyota customer service to request a goodwill repair authorization and the first question they asked me was if I had the vehicle serviced at the dealership. I said no because as a former technician, I do all my own vehicle maintenance. They said they could not help because of that. This involves a known product problem that they would have taken care of thru what all manufacturers call "hidden warranty" if I had allowed the dealer to service the vehicle. This is discriminatory and should have been taken care of more importantly because it is a safety issue affecting the suspension and vehicle handling. I noticed the problem last fall when the vehicle starting making a clunking noise in the rear and handled sloppy in the rear suspension. You have had a number of other reports as well on this specific problem.

Safety recall notice 16V-596 regarding rear lower suspension arm (no.1) assemblies. We have been trying to get this recall repaired since the notice was sent out. To date Toyota has been unable to supply the part to remedy this problem. I do not have the exact date of the recall but has been over three years. I am concerned that if the part fails, as noted in the recall, it could cause loss of control of the auto. Regarding this, who is responsible if an accident were to occur?

I received the recall notice in October. I called immediately for an appointment and was told that they did not have the parts. In January, they still didn't have the parts and so I called another dealer in the area - same thing, "parts are on back order." This is a significant recall - the 2nd one they have issued and it is 4 months now with no sign of being able to get it fixed. Can't wait for my wheels to fall off!!

2010 Toyota rav 4. consumer writes in regards to vehicle wheel alignment issues. The consumer stated on December 19, 2016 she had her bald tires replaced with new tires. A wheel alignment diagnostic was part of the service. The diagnostic showed the vehicle needed an alignment, especially in the rear. The consumer gave the approval for the wheel alignment. However, the technician returned and said it couldn't be performed because of a bar that was in the rear of the vehicle that had no screwed to adjust it, and there was a sticker saying do not remove. He stated he could do the front, but it would not be correct, because the rear needed to be aligned as well. The consumer went to the dealer, who installed the bar as part of a recall. The dealer stated the vehicle was out of alignment and corporate would have to be informed as to see what the next step would be. The dealer informed the consumer, the alignment was $89. However, it would cost $59 to check it. The consumer was in disagreement with the $59 charge just to check.

I took my 2010 Toyota Rav4 to be aligned today. I was told that the left rear wheel was out of alignment but could not be adjusted. That is, even though the tire was out of alignment, the serviceman said he could not make the adjustment. He said there was a note about not being about to adjust the alignment. My tires have been wearing unevenly. Apparently, I cannot have my car aligned. I would like the nhsta to look into solutions to the "un-alignable vehicle".

My rear car suspension was incased because it was recalled. Over 55 mph was car would sway from side to side. I called Toyota and was told my car was perfect. I took the car to two dealers who said at low speed the car performed well. The was a law suit in California that proved the car is defective after the recall. I missed the date because I did not research the web. I sold the car for less because I did not want a crash. I lost money on the car sale.

This is in regard to recall #16V596 for the rear suspension arm assemblies. The fix that Toyota wants to implement involves encasing the adjustment sleeves in epoxy resulting in the arms no longer being adjustable. These suspension arms are adjustable so that the rear toe-in can be adjusted when an alignment is performed. The fix Toyota wants to do is like welding the drivers door shut because the latch broke: It's no longer functional.

When I took my Toyota Rav4 in for a tire alignment, I was told by the Toyota service center that my rear tires could not be adjusted due to a recent recall which epoxied them in place. The service center also explained that my rear tires were out of alignment which was causing them to wear unevenly across the thread. I have contacted Toyota directly about this issue, but they feel that the vehicle has been damaged ("perhaps by a pothole" - Toyota rep) since the recall was performed and are unwilling to pursue my case. I had this recall performed less than a year ago, and the epoxy has already failed (and I have had no accidents in that time). I would like the nhsta to please look into this recall, as I cannot be the only owner who is facing enormous repair bills just to fix a mandatory recall.

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while at a dealer for service on extreme wear for the tires, the technician stated that the vehicle needed to be aligned. However, the alignment could not be performed because the repair for NHTSA campaign number: 13V383000 (suspension) was previously performed. The technician then stated that for an alignment to be performed, the entire rear suspension of the vehicle would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed the technician's statement. The failure mileage was 62,000.
