It snowed in Fairfax that morning and I started the van in my driveway to warm it up and melt the show off of it. This van was my favorite vehicle at this point. I started shoveling snow off of the sidewalk and driveway and about 10 minutes later smelled smoke, looked at the van and saw fire under the hood. I turned off the engine, opened the hood and hit it with the fire extinguisher. All the wiring, including the harness on the driver side, was toast, the battery, battery box, breather box, cruise control and starter melted down. The paint burned off of the hood. The grill melted. Mechanic said that it was caused by the starter not dis-engaging after start. Reported to Toyota but no help. Donated van to local high-school auto shop.
