When the door closure broke plastic shrapnel flew forward hitting my wife in the face. Thank goodness she had her glasses on. I think the small pulley shattered then the cable jammed and then the motor assembly exploded inside the door. My van is just 3 years old. Mfg June 20,2003. Just outside the 60,000 km warranty and the extended warranty makes no mention of automatic door motor so its not covered. I think this part should last longer than 3 years. My wife could have been blinded.

UPDATE: Toyota ECP extended warranty ended up covering this failure even though the power door motors are not included in the warranty. Make sure you have your dealer check the moving parts of your power door every time you have it serviced. The cable will corrode and the bolts will loosen up possible leading to failure.
