1999 Toyota Tacoma. Our local Toyota dealer inspected the frame last week and confirmed that it has the rust issue covered by the 15 year extended warranty except for the fact that the 15 years ended two years ago for my vehicle. Toyota applied a thick under coat in 2011 but it actually prevented the discovery of the defect until after the 15 year extended warranty had expired. This is clearly a recall situation or at the very lease they should honor the extended warranty on my truck because they hide the defect.

Noticed my truck was leaking gas. Upon further inspection it appears to be coming from the tank and then I noticed that the frame is rotted out around where the leaf spring is mounted. My truck frame was inspected by Toyota years ago and I was told that it passed. I know about the extended frame warranty but just my luck it expired for my truck at the beginning of this year. I usually do a visual of the frame when I wash my truck but didn't notice anything. I'm not sure what I should do I can't drive my truck this way. I know Toyota is going to give me the run around.

I purchased my 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 11/2013 at a small dealership. I checked the vehicle out pretty good before purchase and found lite surface rust on frame and thought nothing to worry about. 12/2014 I was working on emergency brake, do to sticking and notices a large rust hole at the rear leaf spring. I started looking on the internet for local frame repair company's and found out about the problem with this year Tacoma. I called Toyota service and they said there was nothing they could do because the warranty ran out on frame rust. I called a local Toyota to buy a new frame, they told me they don't manufacture that year anymore. I took it to a frame repair shop and they told me it would cost $2600 to fix the rear half section of the frame and to replace the front section as soon as possible. The whole frame, if they locate one used from out West and repair would be $6000. It really seems that there is a serious safety issue here and there hasn't been a recall on the frame. If they recall they have to fix all the years mentioned.

The Toyota Tacoma 1999 that I purchased had a 15 year extended warranty due to a defective frame susceptible to rust. The warranty ended on 4/10/2014 but I didn't purchase the vehicle until 7/27/2014. The dealer did not disclose the poor frame condition and allowed me to purchase an unsafe vehicle at the kbb value. I cannot afford to repair the defect or buy a new vehicle. Is there anything that NHTSA can do" is there any way that Toyota can be asked to extend the warranty by one more year? can they make this an actual recall instead of an extended warranty" thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

We recently discovered a large rust hole in the frame in front of the rear wheel of our 1999 Toyota Tacoma. After talking to our mechanic about repair, we discovered that Toyota had issued a warranty extension for frame due accelerated rusting of the frame and manufacturer defect, but we were never notified. We contacted Toyota, and they said the warranty had expired on June 10, 2014. Apparently, the previous owner had been contacted, but not us. We purchased the truck on 2/20/2013. Our mechanic has warned against driving the vehicle due to frame rot. Toyota is not willing to extend the warranty even though we were unaware of it and not notified. So, we now have a vehicle that runs well and is in good shape mechanically and body-wise, but we have concerns about driving it safely on the highway.

We just learned recently about the issue with the Toyota frames rusting out and when we took the vehicle to Toyota to get it looked at they responded that the 15 year frame warranty expired on 5-27-2014. We were never notified by Toyota about this issue, nor were we aware of this problem until recently when a friend had an issue and told us about it. If Toyota would have notified us we would have had the frame inspected prior to the warranty period expiring. They did notify me in 2007 or so about a recall on my 1990 Toyota but not this one for my 1999 which is very a serious issue.

Truck has perforated rust through the frame. After researching online, this appears to be a known issue impacting older Toyota Tacoma. I have received no notice of any issue from Toyota despite having a good address on file, but after contacting Toyota, they have informed me of a 15 year extended program specifically for perforated frame rust issues on this truck. Per Toyota, this program lapsed two months prior to my call. Online research and local dealership confirms, Toyota was buying these trucks back and paying 150% of the kbb excellent value, in order to simply crush the truck and move on. Per Toyota, since I have found the program on my own and am calling two months late, they are not willing to take any corrective action whatsoever, either repair or repurchase. Per the dealer, they are getting multiple inquires into this due to people not being aware of the program. At this time, the frame is so damaged due to rust that it is unsafe to drive due to the potential of total collapse.

I purchased this vehicle in 02/11, from my brother. I heard about a recall and called betten Toyota, now Toyota of grand rapids, but was told the VIN was not affected by this recall. Early in 2014, I noticed the cab corner had dropped down. I looked underneath the vehicle and saw the frame was rusted. I called Toyota of gr; they told me to call Toyota customer service. I called Toyota's main office (customer service); they assigned me a case number and told me to bring it to a local dealer and have them check it. I brought it to Toyota of gr where their mechanic deemed it unsafe to drive. Toyota of gr sent this report to Toyota customer service. On 4/24/14 I received a letter from Toyota customer service that "Toyota extended the warranty on your Tacoma for a period of 15 years with no mileage limitation from the vehicle's in service date, for perforation of the vehicle's frame caused by rust corrosion. Based on a recent inspection of your Tacoma, it appears that the frame is indeed perforated. As a result, Toyota is prepared to repurchase your Tacoma." On 4/25/14 I received a letter from Toyota motor sales, U.S.a. Inc. Stating that they would repurchase my vehicle subject to the confirmation that my vehicle complies with all of the conditions of the warranty extension. I was asked to sign an agreement accepting their repurchase amount and send it back to them with a copy of the title. This was completed on 4/28/14. I received a call from Toyota 4/30/14 stating that the truck did not qualify because of the date it was put into service. I found out I missed it by four months. If they would have told me when I purchased the vehicle 3 years earlier that it did qualify, this would have been taken care of at that time. They had my VIN before they sent the letter out on 4/25/14 when they said they would buy it back. We would appreciate your help with this situation.

We own a 1999 Toyota Tacoma with the rusted frame recall. We had it inspected in 2008 at rick hendrick Toyota in fayetteville, nc it had surface rust but they said nothin to worry about. It is now 2014 and the drivers side rear leaf spring front mount rotted right off and the frame is cracked right through. Toyota will not honor the frame replacement even though the inspection was done in 2008 and they found nothing well I have pictures of nothing left of my trucks frame and not it totally unsafe to drive. What can I do with Toyota not keeping me and my family safe ?

I purchased a 1999 Toyota Tacoma in 8/2000. The vehicle had a blown engine that had been replaced and had been involved in a minor accident. I bought it from a local auto-body shop for $10,500 where it had been repaired. I have made my living with this truck and have put over 200 K miles on it with no major repairs. It has been trouble-free and I had no thoughts of replacing it. In October 2008, I took the truck to a Toyota dealer to be inspected for rust, on the advice of an friend. No rust perforation was found. In August 2011 I received a letter from Toyota encouraging me to have the truck re-inspected for frame rust. I did this on 12/30/2011. This time they found rust on the driver's side, on the inside of the frame. The dealer told me that I could not drive the truck without signing a waiver and that the truck was eligible for Toyota's repurchase program. I was given a rental vehicle paid for by Toyota. On 1/5/2012 I was told the truck did not qualify for the repurchase program because it had a salvage title and to pick it up by the end of the day. I have lost a vehicle with no compensation and no recourse with Toyota. There is no relationship between the facts that resulted in my truck having a salvage title and the frame rust. Toyota isn't interested in entertaining the merit of my claim, period. Please help me. I don't know what to do.

I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma which only has 30,000 miles on it and took it in for an oil change to find out the service department had put a hammer through the frame where it had rusted out. Now the dealer has my truck and said that it is not going to be able to be repaired because they do not make this frame anymore. I have taken great care of my truck only to find out that Toyota is only going to give me 150% bb value due to there faulty frame. This is not the consumers error and should not have to held with the cost of there faulty product.

Rusted frames Toyota pickups. Visited Toyota garage with my 1999 Toyota Tacoma, Jan 15 2010, after my servicing garage advised my frame was rusting and Toyota was having a "buyback/warranty recall covering years 1995 through 2000 due to frame rusting problems". Toyota's safety concern is motor falling through to ground or frame breaking entirely in two while driving down highway. Toyota garage inspected my truck and advised frame was rusted severely and qualified for buyback, but due to having a salvage/reconstructed title it is disqualified from the 150% buyback and therefore qualifies for nothing. They returned truck to me same day with advice not to haul anything heavy in truck, and advising I am on my own!! a rusted frame is a rusted frame, even if it had been completely reconstructed with new frame, my frame has no welded plates etc. You might find from a prior accident, it appears 100% original. I understand my specific truck was re-titled due to a previous owner committing suicide in truck, and pa re-titled truck, per the owner I purchased truck from. I am very concerned with my wife or myself driving this truck now. I would be perfectly happy with Toyota to repair or replace the frame as I like the truck, but I do expect it to be corrected or replaced, one way or the other. This is a $10,000 dollar investment, I am retired and it amounts to a substantial amount of money we could lose with no responsibility on our part other than purchasing truck. Updated 03/01/10. Premature rust through of frame. Well maintained vehicle became unstable. Upon inspection, frame had rusted completely through on drivers side, deteriorating on passenger side. Frame is flexing at point between cab and bed enough that rear of cab has contacted with bed. Vehicle unsafe to drive home three miles as frame is near separation, rear spring hanger is close to separating. Unacceptable/dangerous manufacturing/preparation of frame by Toyota.
