Took to dealer with slipping clutch, said it is not covered under warranty, even though 3 yr, 36000 miles were not exceeded.

So my clutch started slipping on the way to work. The car started revving for no reason, I wasn't trying to shift. When I got it home my dad confirmed the problem.

I was told by VW of America that the clutch is a wear & tear problem and not covered unless caused by outside causes or manufactures defect. I only have had the car for 3 years and I bought it brand new. I know about putting the car in neutral while waiting at a long light or slowing to a stop. I learned how to drive on a stick.

I had my car regularly maintenanced at the dealer for oil changes and plenty of tire rotations, since I could barely get 10,000 miles on one tire due to potholes in the city and nails.

I'm really disappointed that VW does not see this as not normal and that I am being blamed for my clutch wearing out at such a low mileage. I don't race it or do burn outs or go flying down the highway. I take it to work and home and to go to the mall.

After seeing the same complaints about GTIs from other years close to mine, I wish I had known 3 years ago. I love the car, but not sure if it is worth fixing for $2500 when I could just trade it in with low miles.
