While still under the 3 yr. warranty, I began having trouble starting the car on very cold mornings. It was as if the connection between the key and the ignition was not being made. I brought it in to the dealership but they, of course, could not replicate the problem. By then it was March and there weren't any mornings cold enough to cause the problem. By February of the next year, after the warranty had expired, the ignition coil went completely and on a very cold morning, I was unable to get it to start at all. Despite my having documentation of the problem and my attempt to have it fixed while under warranty, the dealership refused to cover it in good faith. I even filed a complaint with VW which was rejected because "the car was no longer under warranty". I paid for the repair myself. VW later reimbursed me when I sent a complaint letter to the CEO for a failed oil pump & water pump at 59,000 and reminded them that they also had left me in the lurch on the ignition repair despite my best efforts to fix it while under warranty.
