Jetta GLS 1.8t

The 1.8T has a required waterpump/ timing service that is required to be completed around 100,000 mi. Mine was completed but my car's timing belt jumped time 37,000 miles later and broke 7 valves destroying my car. The dealer was nice enough to offer me $500 and a free detailing for the car. Thanks Dover VW!!!

Jetta TDI 1.9L Turbo Diesel

  • Manual transmission
  • 272,000 miles

driving on the Fyw at 65 mph, heard a bang/popping noise and immediately lost power and car made a while cloud of smoke behind it, cruised over to safe area to find out it wont start. A TDI mechanic checked all hoses, electrical, fuel, and air systems are fine, however, he a getting a very low compression 230-240, and needs a minimum of 285 to start. he thinks something went wrong inside the engine and it would cost a quite a bit in labor $$$ to figure it out, he is suggesting replacing the engine. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks
