All of the internal supports for this drivers seat failed due to the break in the support bar (bent piece of metal rod) shown in the attached photo(s). This bar is the structural support anchor to hold all of the internal of the seat (lumbar support, upholstery, springs, support wire, foam etc) together as a unit. The under-engineered part failed! It will cost at least $1000 to have it repaired. Talked with Volkswagen of America customer support (800-822-8987) about the defect. They essentially gave me the runnaround, expressed no interest in the flawed design and told me to send my complaints to Stefan Jacoby CEO of VW of America. I am very disappointed with VW's customer care. They have NO interest in being responsible for a premature failure in a flawed component. I will contact VW headquarters and the NHTSA as this type of failure cold lead to loss of vehicle control or possibly interfere with the proper operation of the safety restraint system.
