Clicker sends message to log the doors and alarm sets, none of the 4 doors lock. If you open one of the doors, the alarm goes of. I can lock my driver door with my key, but only that door, leaving 4 doors vulnerable. Quoted $2200 at VW dealer to fix!!!

Jetta SE/SEL 2.5L 5-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,000 miles

The problem began with the right rear door not unlocking. I had to reach into the backseat to open the door from the inside. The problem then spread to the right front door locks. My car has been in the shop a week waiting for the VW dealership and my extended warranty company to agree on what they will/can repair. Hopefully I will get my car back in the next week or two.

This is a ridiculous problem to deal with and I have seen so many people complain about this issue. I am mostly frustrated because VW has done nothing to correct the problem with these cars. I used to love VW but after this and the other electrical issues I have had with this car, I doubt I will ever buy from them again.

I purchased my used Jetta in 2011 with only 33k miles. When I brought it home from the dealer, the rear driver door would not lock. I returned it promptly to have it fixed since it was under warranty. A few years later, when the warranty was lapsed, and I had a letter in the mail in regards to a recall on the computer system, I brought the car in to have the repair made. Upon getting home, I realized the same issue had returned and the rear passenger door would not lock. Called VW back, they would not fix it even though I think was was related to whatever update they did on my cars' computer.

A year after that, NONE of my doors lock. When you open the doors however, the alarm will go off. My clicker does not work anymore either. I manually "lock" and unlock the door. I took it in to be quoted an they said it was $1300 to re-key the entire car to match the computer system and new hand held clicker.

The rear driver side door doesn't lock when using the remote or the key. After locking the car with the remote or the key, you hear a beep that the car is locked, but the rear driver side door doesn't lock. When the door is opened the alarm is triggered. Apparently this is a common VW problem that has been ignored by the manufacturer. That is why I need to go back to a Honda or Toyota before spending over $375.00 just to fix one door switch. This type of car should go over 100k with no electrical/relay/switch problems in order to make it to the top list of reliability.

Jetta Sportwagen 2.0L Tdi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,500 miles

The rear passenger side door doesn't lock when using the remote or the key. After locking the car with the remote or the key, the horn beeps and the alarm light blinks indicating that the car is locked, but the rear passenger side door doesn't lock. When the door is opened the alarm is triggered. Apparently this is a common VW problem and I'm wondering if it's covered under an extended manufacturers warranty? I am the original owner of this very pampered car and it's never been in an accident or otherwise damaged. What's the best way to fix the problem?

The doors on my Jetta don't always lock (or unlock) when you push the button on the keyfob OR the button in the car itself. The reason this is a major pain in the ass is because I have small children. If I were involved in an accident and wanted to get my kids out, I just MIGHT be faced with a locked door. Bonus: the door locks on the Jetta are entirely electronic - there is no little knob to lift to manually unlock them. Sometimes, when I hit the lock button, the doors won't lock (and then, if I were to try to open the door from the outside, the alarm will sound because the car is armed but not locked); If I use the KEY itself in the driver's side door, it will always lock/unlock. The passenger doors, however, have no keyhole, so can't be locked or unlocked manually. Mostly affects driver's side front and passenger rear. Doesn't happen every time. I haven't had them fixed yet because I just know it's going to cost a fortune.
