High pressure fuel pump failed traveling 60mph, car begins to stumble (more often then every hundred miles-now less than every 5 miles), engine almost dies out multiple times, RPM drops to near zero, check engine light turns on, hundreds of MINImetal flakes found in fuel system/fuel canister. Car driven to dealer (showed picture of metal in fuel canister). Hamilton imports (VW dealer) had initial tech on 081412 diagnosis problem as "normal for diesel fuel." Called 081512 to service manager john, left message, he replied stating metal in fuel is "normal." On 081612 email VW of America, in regards to the problem, call from service adviser on 081712 and are looking further into the problem. Later that day, called service adviser, they ordered a complete fuel system and apologized for the initial delay and not fixing the car correctly. Received a call from the dealer, 082812, the car is ready for pickup. A complete new fuel system was installed (injectors, high pressure fuel pump(failed), fuel rail, electric fuel pump in tank, all piping).

While exiting a parking at a stop sign, when accelerating out past the stop sign at approximately 10 mph the car's engine suddenly lost power and died. After the vehicle once again returned to a complete stop, I was able to restart the engine after putting the car into park. Taken into dealership 10 days later for schedule service and maintenance; nothing out of the ordinary was found.

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle abnormally lost power and then began to regain power independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that the electrical control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. The manufacturer was contacted and informed him to return to the dealer. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.

Car has had issues 4K on. Car would accelerate on its own from 70 mph to 75 like wide open throttle. Car will quit at highway speeds 70 mph (no power steering, no brakes, just the service engine now and glowplug light are on flashing, (50K on) this has happened 4 times, car will quit making a right hand turn hitting pothole (50K on). Total dpf system has been changed out two times from two dealers, 3 total with original. Erratic egr signal was always tripping check engine light, some faults but not all are exhaust gas recirc flow insufficient detected sporadic, cylinder 2 injector N31 open circuit sporadic, exhaust aftertreatment fuel supply control performance sporadic, throttle actuator control motor circuit range/performance sporadic, navigation antenna (gps) short to earth. Dealers have spent over 20 thousand dollars parts and labor, in 4 different shops over 83 days (overnight), over 95 including reading codes only. Out of warranty expenditures over 1 thousand dollars so far. 69,000 miles and the dealer tech has no idea how to fix this car, he started out saying he has never seen a car he can't fix. I have over 50 pages of dealer documented faults and repairs, reprogramming ECU, was replaced this year to see if that would fix problems, some gone but now major issues listed above are happening. Replaced diesel particulate filter 2 times, replaced O2 sensors, replaced egr sensors and gaskets 2 times, replace throttle position sensor, replaced pressure sensor. Only item not replaced is the wiring harness.

We purchased a demo VW Jetta sportswagon tdi the summer of 2010, the vehicle had @ 2600 mi. On the odometer. After driving it for a while we noticed that when you step on the accelerator there was often a hesitation before the car engaged and you started forward. We talked to the dealer and they told us it was the transmission, several other people had complained about it but there was nothing they could do. When you try to get out in heavy traffic you often put yourself and others at significant risk because the car hesitates as you try to accelerate from a stop leaving you hanging out into traffic. Someone is going to cause an accident, I hope it isn't us.

This is a 2010 tdi wagon with the dsg automatic transmission. The transmission was a problem from the start being very jumpy starting off and stalling repeatedly in stop-and-go traffic. The dealer after numerous requests finally agreed to let me demonstrate the problem which I did. The dealer replaced the electro-hydraulic controller but then found the transmission had failed completely. I replaced the car with a 2012 model but with a manual transmission. The dsg is a dangerous transmission making the car operation erratic and unpredictable.

I have had several issues in the past month with my vehicle either stalling immediately after start (while clutch still depressed) or shortly after driving. Volkswagen has identified this as an issue with the intercooler; there is a flaw in the design that is letting water into the air pipes which is collecting and freezing. Three times this happened in traffic, one time while crossing a lane with oncoming traffic going 50mph. VW drained the intercooler two weeks ago and sent me on my way because the part is being redesigned and is on backorder. A week later my car failed shortly after leaving my driveway, stranding me on the side of the road. I had to have it towed back to my driveway. VW dealership and customer care were closed for the weekend. Monday I had to take a tow truck ride 1.5 hours to the dealership. They've drained it again and want me to pick it up but have acknowledged the issue is not fixed. They acknowledge it is a known issue, it is a safety issue, the car is under warranty and yet they want me to pick up an unrepaired car because VW does not have parts to repair it. I live in Vermont, the winters are cold, I can't risk getting into an accident because my car fails due to what VW claims is a known issue.

When sitting on a uphill incline preparing to merge into traffic I pressed on the accelerator and started rolling backwards. The transmission finally took hold after the pedal was pressed a number of times to the floor. This is a safety issue! I have read online forums and numerous complaints have been filed. The transmission has a stalling problem. I bought the auto new. As of my knowledge now there is no recall, however this is a serious defect!!!

  • 35,650 miles
2010 VW Jetta tdi with roughly 35,650 miles. While driving up the on-ramp to enter the interstate, glow plug dash light came on and warned to "check engine now." Within 20 seconds, the car lost all power, and luckily I was able to coast over to the shoulder of the interstate (with drivers flying by at 65+mph at 9:45pm). Vehicle would not restart and had to be towed to the VW dealership. Service rep claimed "fuel contamination, " with metal shards all throughout the fuel system. Entire fuel system has to be replaced ($10,000 repair) with equivalent, new parts. According to VW service technicians, the parts have not been updated despite VW's knowledge of this problem. As a result, "fuel contamination" could happen again, and the car could shut off while driving at any time without notice. This is a very serious safety concern. Luckily, because I was driving at night, there was not a lot of congestion on the road. Had this happened during rush hour, there very likely would have been a severe accident. VW claims the problem is a result of the poor quality of american diesel fuel supply, saying the tdis are designed in germany to run on 100% diesel that's found in europe. If this is the case, why are they selling german designed cars in the United States that doesn't have fuel supplies that are 100% diesel? Volkswagen needs to issue a recall of the 2009/2010 Jetta tdi.

When accelerating from a quick stop the car sometimes experiences a delayed response. The car will begin to accelerate at a crawl (as if I only let off the brake) even though the pedal is pushed to approximately 20% then will suddenly accelerate as if I pushed the pedal to 80% sometimes causing the tires to slip. This unexpected/undesired response makes the car appear to other drivers as if it is not proceeding through the intersection which leads them to start to proceed and then it quickly accelerates. To try and prevent this I am forced to push the accelerator pedal to 20% or so and then quickly reduce it to 5%. additionally when slightly letting off the accelerator (less than a 5% change in accelerator position) while driving at highway speeds the car will suddenly lose power as if it was shifted into neutral then will resume normal operation. This reduction in power last for less than a second and as the car is well into its top gear and is not asked to quickly accelerate does not make sense.

The mechatronic unit on the dsg failed causing the transmission to lurch forward when in 1st gear, and remaining in neutral for an extended period which is not normal. This is a safety issue as it can cause an accident in the failure to clear an intersection especially making a left turn, and potentially cause rear ending another vehicle and or causing unexpected acceleration. Right now, the vehicle is in the shop waiting for a whole new mechatronic unit to be replaced. Currently waiting on order. The vehicle is covered under warranty as it only has 7K miles on it.

I purchased my 2010 Jetta tdi new at the end of September 2009. It is a manual transmission. I'm a pretty conservative driver and attempt to maximize my mpg. Each day after the vehicle has been setting overnight and is cold, I start up and drive to the store, a 4 mile drive, the engine will pause usually within that 4 mile drive. Sometimes it is a short jerk and sometimes it is a greater jerk. Other times it will happen on the return trip home. But it'll happen only once until it sets and cools off. I have had it in the shop twice with no help. My research finds some problems with the high pressure fuel pump which may be the issue, but I haven't been able to talk to VW America to see if they will confirm or deny this. This problem has happened since I've had the vehicle. It has 6,500 miles on it and I'm hoping to get it fixed before the warranty expires. Not sure what will happen when the mileage gets higher.

I purchased a 6-speed manual transmission Jetta-tdi at the end of December of 2009. I have been driving manual transmission cars since 1975, and I was upset that my car was stalling either just starting out in first or in the lower RPM range of the lower gears when turning and moving through intersections or trying to go uphill when the rpms were in the lower range. Keeping the rpms up a bit seems to have helped, as I am not having it stall as much as before. I also noticed what seemed like a slight hesitation or jerking when cruising. It would be just for a split second and then be gone my accident occurred when I was parallel parking on a hill. I went to back up a bit to straighten out my car and it stalled, rolling forward into the car parked in front of me. Fortunately, no one was injured. Damage was minor, but was submitted to my insurance company. At this point I was just blaming myself for not being able to adjust to the difference of clutching with a diesel engine because I couldn't figure out how to explain it. Then a heard 2 radio reports about the complaints being filed. I called VW of America who listened to my story. They told me that in order to be compensated for my accident, that I would have needed to have had the car towed immediately to a dealership and had it diagnosed. She suggested that I take it to be diagnosed. I took it to the dealer who kept it for two days and could not find anything wrong. A week later, I was coming to a stop for a red light and the rpms began to fluctuate like it was going to stall and then it would come back to normal rpms. When I started to drive it was a little rough, then smoothed out. I called VW of America who recommended that I take it back to the dealer. I am waiting for them to return my call. I have also 3 intermittent problems with my am radio cutting out--are the problems connected?

VW Jetta tdi 2010. On four occasions the car has completely died while moving slowly. (5 to 20 mph) everything in the car stayed on. I had to turn the key off. Place the car in park and restart the car. There was no indication of any problems before or after the car staled out. Nothing in the car turned off or on, except the radio after I turned the key to the off position. Also while driving door locks started to click open and closed at 65 mph. After 10 min of random clicking the doors locked and stayed locked. Airbag light came on while driving. The light went back off after 20 min or so. Has not come back on. Transmission is generally smooth, however at random it is very abrupt, even during gradual or steady acceleration/deceleration. Car has only one driver. Has only ever had correct fuel. Various other electrical problems began at 300 miles. All problems are random. VW continually dismisses me. It is going into shop again on Monday. From the sounds of it they do not expect to do anything to fix the car. Just drive it a few days and see if a problem happens. Car has put me in the middle of intersection with no control.

2010 Volkswagen Jetta tdi(diesel) shuts off while driving. This has happened three times to me while driving. Vehicle usually start up after without difficulty. Vehicle has approx 2800 miles. One time it happened in a major highway intersection. This is very dangerous. Vehicle was taken to VW where repairs where supposedly made. Repairs made were 02 sensor and computer update. A few days later vehicle shut down once again while driving after the VW "repairs". there does not seem to be a pattern to the incidences. Vehicle is currently at VW undergoing tests. Another odd thing is that the factory bluetooth stereo has not worked since the first time the vehicle shut off while driving.
