Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

Fuel guage intermittently displays incorrect levels. For instance, will only show 3/4 full after fillup. Also, will sporaticly jump between 1/4 full and full on occasion. Dealer states "unable to duplicate. Have almost runout of gas on 4 occasions due to problem. Have talked to other Passat owners, and many report same or similar problems. Concerened about running out of fuel and being stranded or, more seriously, fire hazard. Problem first started to occur around 45K miles.

Fuel gauge did not register the correct amount of fuel. This could cause the vehicle to run out of fuel. Fuel sending unit was replaced in April of 99 because of this problem. Volkswagen refused to address the current situation. The cause could be a loose wire according to the owner.
