CarComplaints.com Notes: VW gave the Tiguan a facelift with new headlights, a fancier grille, and improved performance. Unfortunately they didn't address what gave most 2010 owners headaches --- engine problems.

Tiguan ES Ea888 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

See the attached NBC report for information on this VW 2008-2014 timing chain issue. This is a known issue that VW failed to issue a recall for, that has now generated multiple class action lawsuits.

VW, once a reputable, above board company that cared about quality issues, has become this defensive, litigious organization that would rather fight lawsuits than proactively admit quality issues and support it's customers with recalls for $4000 plus repairs

I have contacted VW America Customer Care and am waiting to hear if they will cover the total cost of this repair based on the overwhelming evidence that it is a known issue they are fighting in court. If they agree to pay for all repairs I will post this as an example of their intention to make good on quality concerns as a customer value statement.

If they do not agree to pay for all repairs, I will post the contact information for the attorneys involved in the New jersey class action lawsuit on this matter, for other VW owners who suffer from this ame issue

Tiguan SEL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 31,400 miles

I have 31,400 miles on my 2011 Tiguan and this is my third time sending it to the service center. The first time it stalled out in a parking light and a check engine light went on. According to my VW service center, the computer chip to the fuel pump had to be replaced (under warranty). The second time the engine light went on while driving it on the highway and I brought it in. The manifold had to be replaced (under warranty) and that just happened this week. Yesterday my engine stalled out ON THE HIGHWAY and I feared for my life. I had it towed and VW service now says it is the fuel pump (NOT under warranty). This will cost me $450. I am very concerned that I am driving a very unsafe and unreliable car. I will not recommend this model to any of my friends and strongly consider selling it in the next 6 months. I have had two Honda Accords in the past and replaced a fuel pump on one of them after 125,000 miles on the car! To have three serious engine issues within three years and under 35,000 is UNACCEPTABLE.

Tiguan 4motion 2.0t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,001 miles

First the engine light came on then the EPC light came on, the car is running like sh*t, no power, kinda surging. Got in this AM to bring to the dealer and the electronic E Brake symbol was lite after turning the car off from making a stop. The E BRAKE indicator light was off like it was working once again? Every time I stop and start the car there seems to be a new indicator light on dash board!

Car is at the VW Dealer right now waiting on a phone call to find out how much this repair will cost me! At 65,000 miles there should be no issues with it but unfortunately there is !
