Nissan Recalls Pathfinder SUVs to Fix Brake Light Switches
Nissan recalls nearly 80,000 Pathfinders to fix brake lights that stay on because of bad switches.

— Nissan is recalling nearly 80,000 Pathfinder SUVs to fix brake lights that can stay on even though the brake pedal isn't applied, a problem caused by the brake light switch.

An internal investigation found the brake light switch had been installed out of specification, causing the switch to constantly turn off and on. This causes the brake light relay to stick in the "on" position and leaves the brake lights illuminated all the time.

In addition, Nissan says the defect could cause a failure of the brake-shift interlock feature, something that could cause problems with the SUV rolling away if shifted out of "park" accidentally.

Nissan says it issued a technical service bulletin to dealers in December 2015 for 2013-2015 Nissan Pathfinder SUVs concerning rear brake light switch problems. However, the automaker says it determined Pathfinder warranty claims were still increasing for SUVs manufactured before June 2013.

The recalled 2013-2014 Pathfinder SUVs were built June 20, 2012, to June. 13, 2013.

The recall should begin on July 25, 2016, when Nissan dealers will inspect the brake light switch and replace the relay, if needed.

Pathfinder owners with questions or concerns should contact Nissan at 800-647-7261.
