The engine revs to about 1800 rpm at odd intervals, sometimes when idling at a stop sign, other times when the car is moving. When idling in neutral and the engine revs up, I am concerned about the fact that it puts a strain on the transmission upon selecting "drive" or "reverse". Mechanics have not been able to pin-point the problem due to its intermittent nature.
