We just bought this car from a personal seller. We were told at the time of purchase that the seller had recently had the oil changed ( about 400 miles ago) and that the car was started at least once a week since it wasnt driven very often and that he had never had any problems with the vehicle and that it was very dependable. We drove the car about 100 miles over the next 2 days. We were in a differnet town spending time with family since they lived near where we were buying the car from. As we were on our way home the day after buying the car, we got about 30 miles away from our starting point and all of a sudden the accelerator lost power(the car was still running but wouldnt speed up when i pressed the accelerator. I pulled over and the accelerator began working again. I started to back up and i got in the middle of the road still in reverse and the car lost power.Everytime this happend, it started back up again without a problem. I tried reversing 4 or 5 times and everytime it would loose power before i could get going again. We changed the oil and got a new fuel filter put on. The car ran fine for a few days. And all of a sudden while driving down the high way, the accelerator stopped working again. After a few seconds of pushing it up and down a few times it started to work again. This happend 4 times and one of the times i had to pull off on the side of the road cause the accelerator wouldnt start working again and when i pulled off the car lost power. It started up just fine after it cut off. We started to notice that every time this problem occured, the gas level was under half a tank. Once we got gas and had a full tank again, the car ran perfectly.

I dont understand why this would happen but every time it messes up, we have less than half a tank of gas. Please help! We need to get this problem fixed asap but we cant afford to take it to a mechanic and I have a 1 year old who has to ride in the car with me and im 8 months pregnant and i dont want the car to break down in the middle of the road and get in an accident. Please email me with suggestions
