This is the second time I am replacing the electronic steering rack and pinion. Both times the weak rack has failed while going less than 5 miles a hour in 4 wheel drive. The situation both times was just glancing off of a hidden rock amongst a bush. If you are going to put 4x4 on a vehicle it should at least be able to take minor off-road challenges with ease. At over $2k a wack this vehicle has proven to be totally unworthy of simple dirt road navigation. I have had 5 Toyota trucks with a combined mileage of over 500000 miles and have never had to replace any suspension/steering parts. I wanted to give the American truck with the baby diesel a try (which the diesel is great) but the vehicle is to wimpy to adventure of on any dirt roads, I do not mean any rock climbing or Moab type roads I'm talking dirt fire type trails nothing at all technical. It appears to be a vehicle that should only be driven on the street. I wonder how many steering racks they went through just shooting their commercials.Very disappointed with very poor integrity of steering parts.Should say not 4x4 on the side,now I know why they don"t sing that like a rock song anymore, should sing stay away from small rocks. Guess I have to go back to Toyota if I want to drive a dirt road ever again.
