Digital instrument cluster speedometer and fuel level gauge, speedometer goes past 120mph while driving and continues climbing until the engine is shut off, fuel gauge does the same goes past full when less than full. The problem is not constant but occurs mostly in damp or rainy weather. I have found that both can be reset simply by turning the ignition key on and off until which every instrument is acting up goes back to zero. It 's more of a nuisance than any thing.

The instrument panel on my 2005 Chevrolet Impala goes haywire. The speedometer will not register correctly. When I'm driving, it registers 0. sometimes when I am driving 25 mph it is registering 120. My gas gauge also registers empty when I have just filled my car with gas. Several people who live in my community and own the same vehicle (2005 Impala) are having the same problem.

While driving the vehicle speedometer began reading faster than actual speed. Speedometer eventually stuck on 120 mph even, when vehicle stopped. Did correct itself after a week but only for a few weeks. Now doesn't register speed at all, just stuck at 120 mph.

Driving at 30 mph, the speedometer on my 2005 Chevy Impala stopped working. I stopped and started the engine a couple of times and traveled short distances but the speedometer will no longer register any speeds. There are 47039 miles on the car. It will go to the repair shop next week -- cost to repair is unknown.

I was driving along side the police when I looked down to make sure I was not speeding when I noticed the speedometer was on 90mph. I knew that had to be incorrect but I slowed down anyway just because I was unsure. When I stopped at the red light the speedometer was on 90mph still and I was sitting still.

Vehicles speedometer just quits working, it either reads really high or reads zero. You can never tell if your getting an accurate reading or not. Have not corrected the problem yet I feel Chevrolet should have a recall due to the high expense.

  • 59,000 miles
I have intermittent problems with the speedometer malfunctioning. I cannot predict when the malfunction will occur. The speedometer will read 20 mph when I am driving with the flow of highway traffic. Sometimes turning off the engine and restarting it will solve the problem, but not always. I see many people complaining about this same problem with the same GM model but no recall has been issues. It is imperative that a driver know how fast he is driving.

Driving down paved road headlights will go out sometimes they will come back on and sometimes they won't. I also have reported my speedometer showing 80 or 90 mph when I am driving at normal speeds and 40 or 50 mph when completely stopped - sometimes it will not work at all. Vehicle has not been repaired due to the cost involved. Also have had a problem with my power steering pump and a wheel hub. Hub replaced and paid out of pocket and it did not correct the problem. Paid $600 to replace the hub. Had to replace the tires because of that defect.

Speedometer shows 80 to 90 mph even when you are going 30 or 40 mph. I was completely stopped and the speedometer showed 40 mph. The car dealer said that it will cost $300 + just for the part.

Most recent incident was April 27, 2008. Speedometer repeatedly sticks on 2005 Chevy Impala. Car has approx 80,000 miles. Inaccuracy in speedometer reading has so far not resulted in traffic tickets- only warnings. I have researched this malfunction on the internet and found that this is a very common malfunction in 2003-2005 GM cars. What will it take for a recall to happen - deaths"?"

Impala 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,480 miles
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The following day after the vehicle was purchased, the speedometer stopped working. A cluster was repaired and a new steering column was installed at the cost of $465. After the cluster was replaced, the speedometer began to work. While driving between 55-70 mph, the vehicle began making a whining sound. The whining sound could also be heard while driving at speeds between 35-45 mph. On four occasions, the vehicle would not defrost and heat up at temperatures between 45-59 degrees. The dealer stated that nothing could be done. On three different occasions, the vehicle stalled. While parked at a gas station and twice when attempting to start the vehicle, it eventually restarted. The dealer initially stated that the failure could be due to the ignition or the starter. The contact found a nail in a tire and went to a tire shop. She was informed that all four of the tires had cracks on the edge of the tread and were dry rotted. The current mileage was 65,480 and failure mileage was 64,480.

Speedometer in 2005 Chevy Impala sticks. You are going 35mph and the speedometer will read 85 to 90 mph. Called GM customer service. They told me I had to get a $80 diagnostics check on the car from a dealer, before they will tell me if they can give me a discount to fix the problem. The mechanic gave me a verbal estimate of $500 to replace the cluster. I can not afford to pay this. This is a serious problem. These clusters in Chevy Impala should be recalled.
