Turned on A/C to level "5" while set on defrost/ floor setting. noticed that it wasn't blowing as i figured it should. then the air felt warmish... then smoke started pouring out of the dashboard! smelled like "a car fire" with that ever so present plastic/ carcinogen taste in my mouth, and odor now stuck in the car. i quickly shut the truck off and bailed out trying to collect my most valuable things from the vehicle, thinking it would continue to burn!... it didn't! now the a/c still kinda works just not the level 5 setting. i can't afford to take it to the shop to get it fixed. this sucks. chevy, my truck let me down. not fair! i take care of it, it should take care of me!

driving to the post office in August on a hot day. Cranked the ac fan to 5 and within 15 seconds smoke started billowing out of all the vents and flames were coming out from the area of the blower motor. Actually the relay for the fan caught on fire and damned near torched my truck. If we hadn't put the fire out when we did I was ready to let the SOB burn. Called the Chevy dealer and they replaced the relay. Cost me $60.00 for the labor. My switch for the power window on the driver's door quit so I got got an estimate to fix that. The quote was $ 343.00 plus tax for the part. Niiiiiiice!!!!!!!!!!!!

Silverado 1500 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

The number 5 blower setting on my heat/ac stopped working recently in my 2006 Chevy Silverado, V8 5.3 pickup truck. Today, smoke started pouring out of my vents while I was driving with the AC on. The smoke stopped when I turned the truck off, but the burning plastic smell continued. Called the dealer, they said there is no recall, but that it is a reported problem with this truck.
