CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

When pumping gas into my car the gas gauge does not always register that I have filled my tank, also when driving on a city street at a lover rate of speed the transmission jerks or acts like its slipping and I have taken my car to a Dodge dealer and I cant check the fluid on my transmission because it is a completely sealed transmission and there is no way to check the fluid or even change the fluid, I had also contacted a Dodge dealer about a recall notice I have received on my car and they said the parts aren't available yet.

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Dart. When the contact started the vehicle, the gauges made a ticking sound and the instrument panel lights flickered. The contact was trapped in the vehicle and her husband had to use a metal key to unlock the door from the exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The electrical failure continued to occur intermittently. The contact made an appointment to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. The contact stated that the engine needed to be rebuilt because the gauge that regulates the temperature was not in the engine. The manufacturer replaced the engine. The contact stated that the vehicle shook and pulled to the left while traveling 55 mph. While traveling 25 mph through an intersection, the contact attempted to stop the vehicle, but the brakes failed. As a result, the vehicle struck a curb, which created a gash in the tire and the rim. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

When attempting to start my Dart, the clutch pedal will have no tension in it. The pedal will go straight down to the floor with no effort and will stick down. I have to use my foot to pull it back up. The car will also not go into gear when this occurs. You have to either turn the car off or let it stall, then pump the clutch 10-20 times in order to get the tension needed. Sometimes this doesn't help at all and you have no choice but to attempt to drive it. This is extremely unsafe! fca knows there is an issue, they've extended the warranty to 60,000, but my car having 83, xxx miles they don't care. First extended service corporation who I purchased an "extended service agreement" through doesn't care either. I asked to speak with a supervisor and the representative flat out told me "no" and hung up. I've been having this problem for well over a year. We've contacted the dealership and others around and they said it wouldn't be covered under warranty. This is a safety concern, how is it not a recall"!"

About 1 year ago, the brakes went out while going down a hill on the way to work. They said it was the brake booster and some other part related to that. The brakes have not been working correctly since it was fixed, but the dealership insists that they are fine. I left the car with them for 2 weeks and they could not get the brakes to fail. On 1/15/16 when I pulled into my driveway, the brakes gave way again. I backed up and drove in again, and they did it repeatedly. It was like they couldn't catch or something, you could feel the jerk of the brakes as I tried to apply them. We have been given the run-around for almost a year, and were told that the brakes were fixed and fine. We received a recall notice from Chrysler saying there is no permanent fix for the problem, yet they refuse to let us past the entry level people operating the phone. I am in danger every time I have to drive my car. We have gotten no where in the past year with Chrysler, and have been repeatedly lied to about the safety of the brakes. The proof of those lies is in the recall which clearly says there is no fix for this problem at the present time. That means that my brakes could fail at any time and I cannot go about my normal life in a panic about driving to and from work, or the grocery store, or have anyone in the car with me, because I am always preparing for an inevitable crash. I should not have to live this way, and they have known all along that there was a problem, and have done nothing to make it right, but have done everything to pretend it did not exist. I should not be forced to continue paying for a car that will one day result in my death or injury. This car should be bought back from me if there is any fairness at all, otherwise I have paid on time for two years on a car that is faulty and dangerous. This puts me at a disadvantage when going to buy a new car with no trade in.

Husband was about to leave the store, applied the brake to reverse was a loud pop and hissing noise, brakes barely worked at 10 mph. I've had this car 2 years brand new, no issues what so ever, now this. Apprears to be the same issue as everyone else. Will need it towed to the dealer, earlist appointment is 12/14/2015. I have not hit 20,000 miles on this car yet. This is a very serious safety issue!

While driving and attempting to come to a stop by pressing the break, the break out of nowhere became very difficult to press down and the car was difficult to stop. I was coming off the highway approaching a light. After I was able to press it down it let off a hissing noise. I took it in and was told it was the break booster that needed to be replaced. No one was able to inform me what caused it. I have never had any trouble prior to, no accidents and I am consistent with service. It is clear this is a manufacturing problem and a recall is in order. I do understand this is not the first or only complaint for the very same issue. This could result in death. Also their seems to be a problem with my airbag system and tire light as they have been triggered on their own and will not go off.

Arrived home on 12/5/2015, we live on an incline so we have to use the parking brake to park. I noticed that when I applied the parking brake it was a little weak feeling. We did not drive the car again until the morning of 12/7/2015. We were leaving for work, applied the brake, put in reverse and released the parking brake. When I released it, it just fell like there was nothing there... like the parking brake was just a handle not attached to anything. So, I started to back up and with the parking brake completely off, the rear brakes were still locked up. I pulled forward and backward to try and help free the brakes. Applied the parking brake again and it had nothing there. Since this is the only vehicle we have, we continued to drive it and it eventually freed up, but still not working properly. When applying the regular brakes to stop, the rear end felt like it had to much brakes. I could also let off the gas and feel the car coming to a stop like a slight amount of braking was being applied. I drove it to the dealership immediately to have the problem looked at. They told me there were no safety recalls on the car, however there have been multiple issues/reports and recalls about the brakes for this model.

When braking the car does not seem to stop. On September 13,2013, my son actually had an accident. When he applied the brakes the car continued to run into the back of another car. It actually took over 6 weeks to repair the car, as parts were not available. His car also shows that it is not in the system when I input the VIN number. I'm hoping I didn't miss any recalls because of this. Originally when he bought the car, the VIN number was wrong on his registration. He was in the process of stopping the vehicle when I ran into the back of it. He was on a highway at the time. It caused $8,847.31 damage to his car.

Parked veh to enter store. When I returned to the veh and applied the brake to put the veh in reverse, it popped out, and was very difficult to press. This was in a private parking lot. While pulling out of a parking space, I had my foot depressing the brake. All of a sudden the break popped back out and pushed my foot backward. I moved slowly. I put my car in park, turned the engine off, and then turned it back on again and pressed on the brake only to hear a sound of air being released. I had to drive 10 mph so that I could ensure proper stopping time because the brake was literally useless.
