CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

The first time my breaks went out I was sitting in a drive thru and we heard a loud popping noise and the breaks became hard to push down. It took longer to stop driving home to be towed. The second time the same thing happened but we were driving this time and with this one the traction control also went out. This is the second time in 9 months that I have had my break system replaced. This is a major safety hazard as I could have killed someone seeing as though I had no breaks to stop. I drive long distances for work on major freeways that are very busy in the morning and at night and had this happened while I was on one of those freeways, someone would likely have died or at the very least been severely injured. This is uncalled for.

My pregnant wife was driving home with our other daughter, when coming to a stop light the brakes made a loud popping sound and the sound of air hissed as she could not press the brake down. She flew through the red light and couldn't stop for atleast another fifty feet holding both feet to the brake and pulling the E-brake. I am very thankful that she was not injured or smashed by a vehicle at the red light and you should be too. After looking online and seeing thousands of people with the same problem and no recall for that part being sent is ludicrous. I am outraged that your company after all these complaints has not sent a recall. For as expensive as the car is, you expect for the safety of our family to be a priority for your company. It is now getting fixed at a dealership and all I got from them was an I'm sorry that happened. After doing more research there are another thousand people saying after it was fixed it happened again. I am very angry I am stuck with this death trap because I am just a gym coach and can't afford to be stuck behind this payment and another to be able to have a safe ride for my family. I would like a reply to this and for you to tell me how you are going to fix this issue. My lawyer said that yall are lucky that my pregnant wife and daughter were not injured or else a lawsuit would have insued, but a lawsuit would not have brought my family back from an accident that your car clearly has a known issue for. Please care more and take action on the thousands of people who like me thought that the Dodge name meant we where buying a nice car that would protect my family and be something I could pass on to my children.....updated 06/15/16

I am having the same issue that a lot are having as I researched the internet. As I depress the brakes a hissing air noise happens and the braking systems fails. The warning light and message appears on the dash, and I have to brake extremely hard to get the car to stop and it appears the hydraulics are failing. It's dangerous and I don't have the extra money to get this fixed. This is clearly a defect and it needs to be recalled and repaired by the manufacturer.

I was backing out of parking spot and depressed the brakes to shift into reverse. As soon as I hit the brake there was a pop and a hiss. The brake pedal then became extremely difficult to depress and couldn't safely stop the car unless going 10 mph or slower. Sounds like a common occurrence as far as problems go...probably the master cylinder and brake booster.

Was backing up the car and needed to slow down and suddenly had no brakes. I had to press extremely hard on them to get the car to slow down and it barely worked. Scared me to death because I was backing up into a busy street. The car is at the dealer now so I have not been informed on what the problem is but it sounds like I am having the same issue as others

Picked up kids from school, drove to the mail box in my community and turned off vehicle. After started vehicle again, breaks were very stiff and whooshing sound came every time I stepped on the pedal. When the vehicle was shifted to drive, it started rolling. I had to push the break pedal harder to make the vehicle come to a complete stop, all the while the pedal was very stiff. I drove to work that morning and made it back to kid's school without any issues or signs that break system might have problems. This seems to be a dangerous issue as there are no early warning signs.

Pulled into a gas station and as I came to a stop a popping noise came from under the dash. The brake pedal became very firm, as if the engine were off, and I continued to roll forward and bumped the sidewalk. Minor damage, just scratches on the bottom of the bumper. I was able to limp the car home, and called the dealer the next day. After a few searches, it seemed the brake booster was to blame. The dealership told me that if there was motor oil in the brake booster, it was suggested that I replace the brake booster, vacuum pump, vacuum lines, and master cylinder. At 43,000 miles. I understand things break. But it sounds like they are aware there is a problem if they already know the other parts that need to be replaced along with it. It also seems a little early for the brake booster to crap the bed.

My 2013 Dodge Dart SXT has recently developed issues with the braking system. The brakes suddenly popped, followed by a hissing noise and the pedal then became very stiff to push. When pushed hard enough I was able to stop but it took significantly longer in order to stop. If I had been on the highway, traveling at 65 mph this issue may have been more serious. But lucky for me, I was only going 45 mph. I brought it to the Dodge/Chrysler dealership from which I bought it from. They looked it over and told me the brake booster, pump, pump line and master cylinder all need to be replaced in order for the issue to be resolved, resulting in an estimated cost of $1200. After hearing the cost of this repair, I went online to research the issue a little more. Only to find out that there is an ongoing investigation with this problem for my particular model of car but no recall has been issued yet. So I am providing you with this information with hope that it will help with the investigation process.

Pulling into my parking space, the brakes let out a hissing noise. It was very hard to press down and when fully pressed down the brakes were not responding well at all. This was not a one-time incident. After testing the brakes again they are still barely responsive and the pedal makes a hissing (letting air out) sound.

Brake power assist failure. I heard a pop and then the brakes started pushing back at me and making a hissing noise. I almost didn't have a chance to stop and the guy behind me almost hit me. If my elderly mom was driving there would be no way she could press down on the brake hard enough and we would have a much bigger problem. These companies need to be held accountable. Thanks.

When son attempted to leave parking lot, there was a medium "chunk" noise and the brakes didn't seem to work at all until he stomped really hard on the pedal. He drove his 8 miles home slowly, giving lots of braking room as every time he hit the brakes a hissing noise and very little brake response was given even when depressing the brake as hard as he could. When my husband drove it into the shop, he said it was like there were no longer power steering brakes. The brake booster was replaced, under warranty still, and since my son stepped so hard on the brake, he actually broke the brake pedal assembly as well, which caused the brake lights to stay on all the time even when the car was turned off. All that was replaced under warranty, too.

When putting my 2013 Dodge Dart into reverse to back up in my driveway I realized I had no brakes. The pedal made a loud wooshing noise and it sounded like a lot of air coming out. We were just leaving on a weekend trip, stopped for gas and started to pull out from driveway when the brakes failed and we ended up halfway in the road. Thankfully it was clear at the time and thankfully we were 3 blocks from home. The brake pedal became very stiff and has a whooshing sound. I'm so upset with the quality of this car. I've had several issues with it since the day I purchased it and after multiple trips to the dealership none of the issues have been resolved except one I figured out on my own. I will not suggest anyone buy a Dart and expect to have all these issues dealt with at no cost as after reading multiple complaints I see its a common issue
