Car stuck in limp mode, service tech confident the transmission is in order. Identified that the TIPM is not communicating with the transmission properly. I believe this is an error on the manufacture and should be reimbursed for the faulty equipment.

Grand Caravan 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 155,000 miles

This has happened 3 times in the last 2 weeks. The horn goes off, door locks don't work, front and rear wipers go off with the rear fluid squirting and won't shut off. Car won't turn off.

Update from Aug 10, 2016: Car wouldn't start in the morning. After many attempts throughout the day, it started, so I drove it to work. After finishing, when I opened the door to leave, all the electrical problems started (horns honking, windshield wipers going) and nothing would stop them even after I unplugged the battery this time, and the engine would not turn off either. Eventually, after about 5 minutes, it decided to stop.

Update from Aug 10, 2016: Today, the car didn't start again, but again later it started, so when I went in to gather my stuff to leave, when I came out, the door locks had locked me out (with the key in and car running), but thankfully the back gate door was unlocked, so I had my daughter climb over the seats and let me in. I decided to drive it to the dealer for diagnosis, but when I backed up to the end of the driveway, the engine turned off and the windshield wiper fluid started spraying continuously. I could not start the van, nor turn off the spraying. After a couple minutes of this, I kept trying to start the car, and eventually the van started. The windshield spray stopped then, but the wipers then started their out-of-control motion. I decided to head off to the dealership, not knowing what would happen along the way. Thankfully I took the back roads, because it would not shift into 3rd? gear, so I could only go up to 35 mph without revving up the RPMs, while looking ridiculous with the windshield wipers going on a hot dry day. I did make it to the dealership, and dropped it off for their evaluation.

Update from Aug 19, 2016: Van was taken to Extreme Dodge in Jackson, MI. Mileage was 147, 003 miles. Van's horn blows/wipers turn on & off by themselves/the washer squirters activate/mirrors start moving/interior lights blink on & off/doors locks randomly lock & unlock by themselves/vehicle will not shut off at times when turning key off/stalls while driving/also acts like it does not want to shift at times. Dealer diagnosis wiring sliding door (68043222ab) and other side sliding door wiring (68043333ab) and TIPM module (56049720av) totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. Total cost $1,825.68 replaced and vehicle seems normal after 2 days. Defective parts and time for class action!

My wife took our 2008 dodge grand caravan in back in april for a safety recall on the ignition, after waiting about six months for that part. We bought this as a used vehicle from a dealership with 80,000 miles on it. It now has 130,000 on it and it's about the most embarrassing vehicle I may have ever seen. The horn has started blaring in the driveway a few weeks back in the evening it just went nuts for a few minutes around 9:00 p.m. The next week the wife was driving it and the wipers went crazy and wouldn't shut off. The airbag light is now on and the stability control light is also on. I decided to drive it to work to see what was going on for myself. On the way there, I had about five miles to go, then the front and rear wipers went crazy on me. Along with the horn blaring, dash lights, wiper fluid spraying, and door locks going on and off. It stopped about a mile from work. I got out to go inside when it sprayed me with wiper fluid and the horn went off for a while again. In the morning I stopped to get groceries. I got back in the van it started once again. From the store for about the next ten miles non stop honking, front/rear wipers, door locks going. It wouldn't shift all the way up so I had to take it easy on the way home because it was idling high. The high idling lasted the whole 20 mile drive. It's like a circus act in your vehicle and there is no way of stoping it. My question is are the air bags going to go off in it? Is my family going to get locked in there? My wife drives this van with my five year old in it. It has been really hot out here lately and I can't even let them use it. This van has really had only one problem with it before this with one brake caliper being replaced because the piston wasn't working in it. My wife and kids may not mean anything to Dodge but they do to me.

This van was going crazy from the time I bought it with 69,000 miles. Horn blowing, wipers & washers running without key in vehicle, motor would not turn off, motor dies going down road, doors continue to lock & unlock. I had the TIPM reworked in 2014. It is now doing the same things again. I spent $950 having it reworked but now back to the same. This is dangerous driving this vehicle. If I trade it in or sell it then someone else will have the problem or be in danger. Dodge won't fix it even though there are thousands of this model year doing the same thing.

While driving, horn started blasting and wouldn't stop, windscreen wipers switched on and wouldn't stop. Pulled car over and tried to switch off ignition but car kept running - removed key from ignition and car kept running. Drove car with key removed around the corner to parking lot. Tried to open trunk with key fob but none of the locks would operate. Stood there over 20 min when by itself everything shut off. Started car and everything was working as normal again.

My 2008 Dodge Caravan is acting crazy. The horn will start blowing sometimes constant for 10-15 minutes, other times for only a few minutes or seconds. The windshield wipers and washers will start by themselves, my car doors will lock and unlock on there own, this all has happened while the vehicle was running and other times while it was not.

One time while it was running and this happened I tried to shut the vehicle off and it would not shut off. I opened the hood to disconnect the negative battery cable and the vehicle still ran for a few minutes before shutting down, very creepy. This all has occurred about 4 times starting around July of this year.

The last time it happened I took it to a Dodge dealership, they looked at it hooked up the diagnostic test and called me 2 days later and told me nothing was wrong with my vehicle. I told them I was not taking my vehicle back until they find out what was wrong. They called a few days later and said it needed a recall done for the Ignition Module Node, I said ok asked how long it would take and they said it is on back order and could take time, I said no problem you keep it here until it is fixed. All this happened within a week and I had to pay for a rental car for those 7 days.

I eventually called Dodge customer service and they helped me get a loaner vehicle from Dodge until my van was fixed. They put me in 2016 Dodge Caravan and told me to bring it back with the same amount of fuel. I was happy. It took Dodge about a month and a half to get the part in and replace it. I got the vehicle back for a month now and the same problem is happening again.

Now what? It is dangerous to drive, and I do not have a second vehicle. When is Dodge going to take responsibility for this issue and help us the customer.

Driver door wiring harness needed to be rerouted because the factory ran them the wrong way and the wires rubbed against the door frame causing a short, repair was to add lengths of wire to shorted area and reseal harness this solved the problem cost around 50 bucks or so from a friend who is a certiied machanic not the dealer who wanted 80.00 just to look at it not including the repair.

I have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. As I was driving on the freeway at night the wipers turned on by themselves, wiper fluid going off ,horn honking, and all the lights flickering.

I called Dodge and they told me that they had a recall called R03 that this could help with my problem. Well I got an appointment at the dealer on 10-7 . I took it and told the guy that the wipers, wiper fluid, horn and lights were going off by themselves, even with the Van turned off. I asked him if the WIN and Fobik replacement would help and he said probably not, but he was going to check the van anyways.

Well he called me and he said that it was ready, he said he didn’t find anything wrong with the Van. Well I thought, maybe it got fixed, but when I got my new keys and turned the alarm off. It started doing it so I went and got the guy and he said WOW!!...ok bring it next Wednesday at 8:30 am and we will look at it again. I left and drove with the annoying horn, wipers and fluid going off but this time the engine light came on and the transmission wasn’t changing gears anymore.

Now I am scared that the our van broke permanently. I read that that there was a lawsuit won for this same problem but for a different Dodge Caravan year. Dodge should applied the recall to the 2008 as well.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 111,000 miles

the problem started with lights flickering inside of the vehicle. Then it moved to the fuel pump not working and then to the headlights. The headlights would turn on for about two seconds and then flicker three times and turn off. We were caught in a couple of difficult situations not having lights while driving at night and driving during the rain. In TN or at least Memphis, it is against the law to drive in the rain. Problem is knowing when it will or will not rain for sure. In many cases in Memphis, it could be sunny and 72 degrees on the south side and an apocalyptic rain storm on the north side, which may or may not have been forecast. It is easy to say in my case that my cars has a lot of lies and it might be "normal" wear and tear... My response, it should have been recalled and fixed well before the van made it to me. I have two words for Chrysler/Dodge: Corporate Responsibility.
