The design of this 110-220-volt cover door was gimmicky at best. Press in, and it pops out and spins out of the way. To put it back, turn it to line up with the hole, and press in (not too hard, or it will pop out again). Unsure of why a hinged cover door like every other vehicle has over the fuel filler was discarded. It has worked fine on all vehicles for many many years. The gas fuel filler door on the other side of the car is one of the old style hinged doors, and it works great. Why the new design...I don't know. But here is what happens; Enter an automatic soft brush carwash, and after the soap and water is applied, and brushes work along the top and sides putting a soft push (opening the gadget door) and then the brushes latch on and yank. The fix is crazy. We cannot drive it in the rain with the electrical opening being subjected to water. Yikes.

So, next Wednesday we are taking it to the only dealership capable of repairing it 25 miles away. $578 not covered by warranty or recall. This really bites into a fixed income. I received no help from the Ford customer service hot line. They said they had no complaints filed against this issue. They will not help pay for any of the repairs. When the lease is up, so is our relationship with Ford Motor Company. Loved the car for the electric power and cost savings, but this ruins our enjoyment. Sorry Ford, design needs to be capable of an automatic car wash.
