CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2004 Ford Escape looks pretty good compared to other Ford Escape model years, but still has a trend of transmission problems, and engine problems from the NHTSA complaint data — so it's not a model year we can recommend.

When starting it up first thing in the morning (warm weather) and I drive it about .5 miles, the speedometer, tach, and gas indicators will all suddenly peg out to max then swing to zero. The SUV will shudder for a split second, then all gauges will return to normal.
