We purchased our Explorer brand new and to have issues with rust within a few months is ridiculous. FORD needs to own up and fix all the rust problems, rather than wait until it causes a hole. Bull sh*t.

We bought our explorer used in October 2016 we bought it at night and never noticed the paint issue first inside the door and then on the hood. I took it back to our dealer along with other issues it was having within a few weeks and was told that it wasn't covered.

We left it go because now we're STUCK with the payment for a vehicle that will be rusted out before it's paid off. I will never buy another Ford product because they have refused to make it right. The entire hood is bubbling from the front and 6 inches back. All of the doors have surface rust on the bottom already, and was told by the body shop if it's not dealt with it will be rusted out before we know it.

Took Explorer to dealer due to rusty doors. Upon inspection dealer said they would submit to Ford to see what Ford would say. Although I was still within the 3 year warranty dealer acted as though they had no idea if Ford would cover it. Within a couple days Ford said it would be covered. I was going to be gone for a couple of weeks so the repair was put off until I returned. When I returned and took the Explorer in for repair and I noticed the rear door on the driver's side also had bubbling paint with rust on it. When I showed it to the dealer he said he would take pictures and submit. This time it took about 10 days to 2 weeks to get an answer. Ford agreed to cover the repair.

About 2 1/2 months later I noticed there was bubbling and rust under the inside of the hood. Now I'm out of warranty by 2 months yet under warranty mileage wise (35,400). Pictures were taken and sent to Ford. Repair was denied because I was out of warranty time wise. I was given a number I could call to appeal. I called and the next day Ford said they would cover most of the repair but it would cost me $100.00. I had the repair done and paid the $100.00.

The part I have a hard time with is this rust issue is well known by Ford yet they will not help owners find it. That is why I had to come to the dealer 3 times and at no time did the dealer look any further then what I was pointing out at the time. On my 3rd trip to the dealer I asked why they didn't help me find more of the areas that were rusting and I was told Ford has instructed dealers not to help customers find areas that are rusting.

I love my Explorer but after this experience and feeling like Ford is not there to help, I'd be hard pressed to buy another Ford. "Quality is no longer job one" at least with rusty Fords.
