Flex SEL 3.5L V6

I was with my wife and we has just gotten gas for the Flex when I started up the vehicle and put it in Drive to cross a very busy highway and making a left hand turn across on coming traffic when a very loud noise was heard and the front end of the Flex dove down and the Flex just stopped in-front of on coming traffic. The traffic stopped and was beeping their horns at us. I put the Flex in neutral and was able to restart it and it ran ok.

This incident scared both of us and from there on I have watched for another incident like it and it has happened 2 more times and each time it scared the SH*T out of me as I could have been killed if there were a traffic issue and I can see how this could be easily a issue with a DEATH of a person or a family.

OK, I know very little about cars but maybe this is a drive train problem? My 2009 AWD Flex was purchased used in 2010 form a dealer. About a month after purchasing, I was coming slightly down out of a driveway turning right. The car made the most horrible grinding noise, like someone was thrusting a 2X4 up into wheel shaft. The car lurched to a stop. Something was stopping the front wheels. I could go again when I turned the wheel straight. We took it to our local mechanic who found nothing wrong. (We are so stupid for not taking it to the dealer and not pursuing it because now it is worse and of course the limited warranty is long gone.) Anyway, it probably happened about monthly, always when I am turning right out of downward facing driveways. UNTIL, about a week ago I was making a normal left turn at an intersection onto a perfectly flat street...not coming down out of an approach. The car again screeched to a halt making the most horrible grinding noise ever. Thank goodness no one was behind me! It did it several more times until I could finally turn the wheels forward and drive away. This is such a dangerous situation! And it happens so randomly that it will never do it for a mechanic. I drive a lot for my work and now I'm totally freaked out. My husband thinks something is wrong with the AWD. It honestly reminds of a person riding a bike and someone shoving a broom handle through the spokes. That's what if feels like. Any help out there? We are taking it to the dealer today but I know they won't find anything wrong or get it to do it again.
