CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.

The Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) is a mess. It fails at an alarming rate. Don’t believe us? Take a look at NHTSA’s data on the subject.

And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

I have kept my 2012 Fusion in great working order. I have done everything for the maintenance. I keep it nice and clean. Well as I am driving down the highway the other day I start hearing this vibrating noise when I hit around 55-60 mph. Well, after trying to track the sound down, it turns out that the trim around the side passenger mirror is coming loose and as the wind hits it it starts to vibrate.

So this was right before I hit my 36,000 end of warranty. I can't bring it in until the following week putting me just over my warranty end. But that's OK because I purchased the extended warranty right? Wrong! I brought it to the dealership and the employee comes out to look at it and immediately asks what my mileage is and what the problem was. I showed everything to him and explained to him about the extended warranty. He says he knows exactly what the problem is (like it's not a new issue) but that even if I had brought it in prior to my warranty expiring, Ford would not have covered it! He also says that extended warranty doesn't cover it either.

He was looking at my side mirrors and you know how there are spots that the paint fades away, because you know they stick out from the side of the car, well he says that that is considered impact damage! Nobody has hit my mirrors. I haven't impacted anything. And it's not the mirror that is vibrating in the first place, it's the trim around it. The same thing is starting to happen around the driver side mirror and there is no 'impact' damage there either. So basically what it boils down to is that I will have to pay to get this fixed out of my own pocket. I don't know what that is going to cost but it is the principle of the matter.

So does Ford make cars that will last only till the warranty expires and then things start to fall apart on it? The employee at Ford was rude, basically saying "we aren't liable for this so screw you! Have a nice day and come back if you want to pay to fix it!" I though that Ford was trying to make a better name for themselves.
