The My Ford SYNC feature on this vehicle allows someone to connect a phone (or other device) to the vehicle via Bluetooth or Line-In, as well as perform other voice-operated activities, which enables hands-free operation of many accessories and GPS while driving.
Unfortunately, it has been discovered on many Ford models, that when the temps inside the car drop below 31-degrees F, SYNC doesn't work at all. Pressing the SYNC button on the steering wheel does nothing, and the car acts as if the feature isn't available at all (other steering wheel buttons work just find, like MUTE). My vehicle is NOT garage kept.
The fix to this seems to be: - Warm up the car to above freezing - Turn vehicle off - Restart vehicle
After these steps are taken, SYNC will usually be present again and function like normal.
Possible reasons/thoughts: 1) One of the chips used on the SYNC computer board might not have ability to function below certain temps. This could be a memory chip or a CPU chip, but perhaps it has an unusually-high low-temperature cutoff. 2) OR, when the vehicle gets so cold, some of the contacts on the SYNC computer board contract enough to not make good contact with a harness or other connection. This, perhaps, could inadvertently cause intermittent connections.
Considering I purchased a new Ford vehicle because of the Ford SYNC capability, this is extremely frustration. Surf the web, and there are threads of other Ford Fusion owners who have experienced the same thing.
