We were 2,000 miles from home. The problem happened in San Diego, CA. We are thankful that we were not at the Grand Canyon or another remote place when our keys would not open the doors or trunk. If we had had a child in a car seat in the back seat and had closed the front door before opening a back door--our problem could have been deadly. When we called Ford, we were told how to dismantle the door handle so we could physically open the door with the key. We then took the car to the dealership. They determined that the remote key was faulty and replaced it the following day. The very next day it happened again.
It has been at the dealership-shop for 5 days thus far. They think that there is an electric short in the system, but have not yet found it. We don't know when our car will be "fixed." so that we might return to our home in Tennessee. I fear that we will have the same problem (or worse) when we stop for gas, stop to eat, or stop at a hotel for the night. For sure our two little dogs will be with us at all times as we drive home. We don't want them to get locked inside the car at a gas station. From what I have been reading, dealerships have not been able to permanently fix electrical problems like ours.
