Annoying that this happens in even a "Premium" Mustang GT.
Simple fix: Goto https://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/cut_to_size_plastic/acrylic_sheets_transparent_colors/519
Select color "Transparent Light Smoke - 57%" Thickness: 1/8 (.118) Width: 7 and 5/16th inches Length: 2 and 0/16th inches
That's it, buy one piece of acrylic.
When you get it to install, no need to unplug battery or remove the radio.
Simply remove the bezel around the shifter, unscrew the screws that hold the bezel around the radio and preferably use an interior trim panel kit to not damage the paint or scuff these parts unless you don't care. You can find videos on YouTube on how to remove these panels properly. Once the plastic cover around the radio is removed, use a very thin sewing needle or pin etc to stick in the left and right sides of the factory lens on the radio front, it is only glued in but the glue will not be hard, it is still tacky. You can pull the factory lens out and just place the TAP plastics acrylic piece in its place using the remaining glue that will be left on the radio. That's it just put the plastic trim back on and - voila - a 25$ fix.
