Windstar 3.0L V6

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Power door remote doesn’t unlock any door; sometimes I am lucky and I don’t need to use my key. This is a very annoying problem, especially during the winter time. We have had many problems with this van. I think the Ford Windstar is a lemon car and needs to be recalled by Ford. We spent too much money on this car. No more Ford for me!

Van sat for 5 days and had to be jump started. Sat for another 7 days and had to be jump started. So the next time I knew it was going to sit for a few days without being started I disconnected the battery cables. The van started right up after reconnecting. Noticed that the fuel gauge was reading empty with the gas light on. Had just filled the tank before parking it so I knew that was not accurate. Figured computer needed to be reset from having the battery disconnected. Read the manual and followed instruction on what to do if the battery is disconnected for a length of time. Also noticed that the keyless entry would only unlock the drivers door and upon further inspection the door lock button would only lock/unlock the drivers door. Had to use the key to unlock the rest. Also, at this time noticed that the tail lights where not working. No brake lights, no tail lights, no 4 way flashers, no turn signals and no license plate light. NOTHING in the back. All lights up front worked fine. Went through the fuses and all the fuses were fine. Took the van to my mechanic and when he started it up to bring it in the garage the tail lights were working. GREAT..or so I thought. Got it home, drove it a few times thinking the lights where working. Also noticed that the locks were all working now as well. A few days pass and i notice that the locks are not working again (only the drivers side) and low and behold, the tail lights are not working either. When the locks work properly, all rear lights work..when the locks are not working, no rear lights. This is very frustrating. HELP!! BTW: van has started fine since the last jump. Has even sat for more than 10 days without being started and will fire right up.

Power door locks cannot be used to open driver side or rear sliding door. The key must be used to open the drivers door. This is annoying but the dealer wanted $200 to fix it so we just live with it.

It started with one door and now it is every one. They either won't lock or won't unlock, And the person who said that they believe they make cars to have certain issues so that we can keep bringing them in to be repaired or traded in is correct. I believe they do make vehicles with faults so they can keep making money and I don't believe it is just one auto company.

Windstar SEL

The locks stopped working while it was under warranty and the dealer replaced them. The same problem has happened again and the dealer wants $700. to fix them. Sounds familiar to others...do they go online and see what the going rate is?

I am going to try to tackle it myself this weekend. Any suggestions?

First the drivers side door would not lock when remote or door lock button is engaged. Now the passenger side door will lock but will not unlock with the remote or door button. Not sure how to fix.

My driver-side door does not fully unlock when I hit the power door lock or unlock button on the door or on my remote. My friend has the same problem with his Windstar. They are designed to have these defects so that the average dummy will come around and trade it in and buy another one. Or perhaps you would pay these outrageous prices to get them to fix their well-crafted-to-break device. It helps the economy go around by you having to spend your hard earned on these trick American vehicles. That's why they don't want you to buy foreign cars and they charge you so much. It is a governmental setup with domestic automakers. I'm getting outta the American market and going Japanese from now on!

The whole electrical system is falling apart. The auto drivers seat is broke in the furthest position back, neither sliding door will shut automatically and 3 of 4 door locks will not unlock correctly. I will never buy another Ford again, ever.
