The contact owns a 2016 GMC Canyon. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The power steering and stabili-trak warning lights were illuminated. The contact called the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not covered under a recall. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the failure was due to the gear torque sensor. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

Latelly I'm having problem it a GMC Canyon 2016 that cause the vehicle to loose power steering loss, and stability control assist which make the car to become very hard to maneuver, in the highway and local roads the first time this happen was beginning of August I brought to the dealer he reset the controls and problem disappeared just to return one month later.

When I am drive, I will get a message on the dash that reads " service... power steering, drive with care" and another saying, " service... stabilitrack" once I receive the message I will lose power in my steering wheel and it'll get extremely hard. Completely not safe and vehicles of the same make and model, but different year are all having the same problem.

Brought to dealer several times before they told me to replace the gear assembly for $2,000. Vehicle has 62K mile and is out of warranty
