CarComplaints.com Notes: 1997 is the last model year in the 5th generation of Accord. Which means it's also the last model year before problems like widespread transmission failure, subframe rust and peeling paint took over.

Does the 1997 have problems? Sure it does. Any car this old will. Some owners say their engine started to cut out around 147,000 miles. That's still not bad, and getting to 200,000+ miles isn't out of the question.

Does anyone believe a newer Accord will reach 200,000 miles?

I bought the car from previous owner at 106K miles. Records and proper vehicle maintenance as required since mile #1. However while the vehicle was with me, problems started right about 120K. CV Joints need replacement, Alignment needed every 4 months or so. Oil leak from engine, need to change oil every 2500miles instead of every 3K. Starter died at 133K. Maybe more to come.

I have a 1997 Accord that leaks cold water onto the drivers feet as they are turning corners when the air conditioning is on. I've read about the plugged drain hose that has been said to dump water on the passenger's side floor. However, the 1997 Accord seems to have this hose located entirely inside the engine compartment attached to a black canister near the fire wall and it doesn't appear to be plugged. I just recently had the system recharged, which is when this leaking started to occur.

Any ideas about how I can fix this?
