CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.

The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the SRS (safety restraint system) lights illuminated in her vehicle and would not dim. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the passenger side seat belt switch was the cause of the failure. The manufacturer asked her to sign a release, but the contact refused. The parts for the repair were ordered in March of 2008 and when she called again in April 10, 2008, she was informed that the parts were on backorder. Most recently, when she went to the dealer to check the status, she was informed that there was no record of the order. The current mileage was approximately 47,800 and failure mileage was 45,834. Air bags-SRS light: Light has been on a few weeks now, found that it is a Honda problem. Concerned about safety, will air bags deploy in a crash" also, NJ will not pass inspection with light illuminated, not safe. Main reason for purchase of the Honda was the safety reputation. When will a recall/fix be issued"

My 2000 Honda Accord ex is approaching 130,000 miles. The other day the SRS light came on and has stayed on ever since. After some research I found that Honda had extended the warranty on the opds sensor and belt assembly. I went to a dealership and had them diagnose the problem. They found that it was the controller unit which had failed. I asked how a solid state computer component would fail other than defect and they said they did not know. I believe that a key safety feature such as this on a car should be covered under an extended warranty. Especially since they have extended the warranty on related components acknowledging that there are defects in the SRS system.

I have a Honda Accord 2000 and the car has 72K. The SRS warning light went on for no reason. I read on the website and this seems to be a manufacture defect. I hope Honda will have a recall to fix this problem for all the owners.

I & my inlaw bought the 2000 Honda Accord ex in the same week (9/1999), after 7 years, the SRS light came on at the same time with no incidents occurred. Also in the last couple days, the brake light came on. I called Honda manufacturer, they rejected the problem because only certain vehicle they cover up to 10 years on the opds (occupant position detection system) unit, which failed and caused the SRS light came on.

My car's SRS airbag indicator has turned on, and the side airbag indicator turns on then and now. I researched on the internet to know that this is a common problem with 2000/01 Honda Accord. The airbags wont deploy because of this indicator even though the air bag system is not faulty.

SRS light came on around 80,000 miles. I have been told everything from it was no big deal, your air bags will not work. I just wanted to know that danger, if it could be fixed, and if there was a warranty coverage issue. It didn't seem to be covered by a recall, even though there were hundreds of cases on the web of people with Accord all having the same problem.

SRS light came on after 100,000. See Honda Accord in this year are notorious for these problems. Honda dealer is trying to say before I even bring it in that it oculd be 20 diff. Things setting this light on. Think he will tell me it is not covered if it really is. There are several tsb's on this issue with many disatisfied Honda owners.
