With 41,407 miles a rodent chewed a hole in the plastic vapor tube that goes from the fuel tank to the top of the fuel filler hose underneath the gas cap. The thin wall plastic tube is heat shrunk over the hose barb on top of the fuel tank. Because of this heat shrink installation the Honda service technician said this plastic tube ($4 value) is not a replaceable part and the entire fuel tank assembly requires replacement costing $1600.
Called American Honda and their representative suggested since my car was no longer under warranty I should check with a local repair shop and have the plastic tube repaired, (spliced with a hose and clamps)! Without the repair the car will leaked liquid gasoline and gasoline vapors near the exhaust pipe, potential fire hazard, and will not pass the annual state safety inspection.
