CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 Honda CR-V has a trend of engine hesitation when accelerating.

Honda has tried to fix this delayed acceleration with a software update, but many owners report it didn't fix the problem.

This defect trend is not quite bad enough yet for us to slap on the "Beware of the Clunker" seal. But it's a concern & definitely something to keep in mind for a test drive.

As I see that many other people are having the same problem..cool/cold air on driver side and warm/hot air on passenger side. This just happened January 5,2022..live in Michigan and it's winter and it's cold out...reading other people complaints...it expensive to go to Honda to have them fix this or they aren't even considering to recall...not sure what to do...love Honda's, but this is 1 of 2 complaints I'm making.

There is not sufficient heat to clear windshield. Even on days when it is not so cold there is low heat until you drive a good long time. Reports show Honda is aware of the problem. But as usual they won't help with a fix. I feel at the least they should offer a heater core flush at no cost. Honda is eager to take your money at purchase. They should help you. This isn't like years ago when vehicles were much less expensive. Today they cost as much as a small home. Honda should help you with a fix on those things that they know are a manufacturing problem.

My driver side has cold air blowing out. The last service place flushed the system 3 times and added a solution to try and open the clog. This did not work. Its been over a week and I just want a functioning heater with no ice on the windshield. Any suggestions on what the next step is to resolution?

I've owned Honda cars since 1989. I always have had very good luck with them being reliable and durable vehicles until now. Had a 1985 Accord, 1996 Odyssey, 1997 Civic, 2008 CRV, and we bought this 2014 CRV in 2018. The vehicle had about 21,750 miles on it. We wanted to get one before all we could find were the newer models with only CVT transmissions available. We test drove a 2018 but were concerned about all the changes Honda had made in the power train.

Turns out, with all the issues people are having with the 2015 models and newer it was probably a wise choice (vibrations in CVT,gas in oil, poor heating performance, etc.) Anyway, as soon as the weather here in Indiana turned cold we found out our vehicle was not putting out enough heat on the drivers side or the windshield. Not safe or very comfortable either.

I found the Honda service bulletin online and found I could actually do this flushing of the heater core myself. The local Honda dealer wanted $335 to do this and of course there is no guarantee it won't need it again. The pump, strainer (I used 100 mesh size and it worked well) hoses and fittings as well as the CLR cleaner and replacement coolant added up to $295 so its not a cheap fix even with no labor charge. But if I need to do it again I can anytime.

As I was flushing the core out I found that some sort of a fiber-like material plugged the strainer almost immediately. I cleaned the strainer and got very little more even after the whole flush was done. Seems to have worked but I think Honda should have made this fix for free as this obviously was an error in the factory.

Honda needs to test their new engineering before releasing it and get back to stricter quality control! Honda is slipping in quality and they will pay for it. Sad part is, there is no reason this needs to happen. WAKE UP HONDA!!!

2014 Honda CR-V EX-L ... Okay seems to be a common problem with the heater on this suv. Honda won't recall this HEATER CORE issues. Come on Honda your better then this. So ice on the windshield doesn't fall under there guideline for a recall. Nice cover up Honda. Taking a page out of the GM handbook on how to run your business into the ground. Anyway needs a heater core flush at 31,500 miles.

The anti-freeze corrodes the radiator causing the core to be blocked. This is a known issue (as you can see from the number of complaints) however, Honda refuses to recall it until forced to by NHTSA.

Don't waste your time with the dealership or calling Honda. Go to https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ and file a compliant. Once they get enough they will force the recall.

Driving home from work on the freeway during a bad storm the defroster was blowing cold air on the windshield and it completely iced over. I could not see. Not to mention-- I was freezing cold. The passenger side was blowing heat, however all vents on the driver side were blowing cold air.

I took my car to a Honda dealer. Without even looking at it, they seemed to know exactly what was wrong and told me it was $330 to repair. I took it to an independent mechanic who charged me $172 to flush out the heater core. The mechanic also told me it would probably happen again. I bought a Honda because they are supposed to be such a great car.

This is my first and last Honda. My CR-V is 3 1/2 years old with under 50,000 when the problem occurred. I am still making payments on it. Now I have to pay for expensive repairs. Definitely not what I signed up for.

Owned the car less than 3 years and this major problem crops up! Even though it is the fault of the manufacturer, Honda refuse to take responsibility for it due to the poor performance of their antifreeze. I bought Honda because it had a good maintenance report, but I have had more problems and spent more with this car than any other I have ever owned. I am going back to Toyota or Chevrolet. I've had much less problems and expense with those cars!

When heat and blower is on, cold air comes from the driver side vent while warm/hot air blows from the passenger side vents. Research indicates a clog in the heater core. A technical service bulletin exists for the problem but Honda refuses to cover the repair under warranty because they do not cover fluid flushes. This issue is a manufacturing defect from either: 1) sand left in the coolant passages after the casting of the engine block and or 2) Honda's coolant containing sediment and or 3) Honda's coolant causing wear to surfaces it comes in contact with.

This particular vehicle has just over 25,000 miles on it and is still under the limited warranty.

The fix for this issue is a flush of the heater core using a mixture of a cleaning product called CLR (Calcium Lime Rust remover) and water. The mixture is circulated through the core using a pump with filter (to capture the sediment that should have never been in the engine block and/or coolant).

Honda wants me to have the vehicle diagnosed and flushed after which, if the problem still is not rectified, they would cover the cost of the core replacement. The cost of the flush and diagnostic is in the hundreds of dollars.

Looking at Honda CRV message boards, this appears to be a very common problem which was acknowledged by Honda Customer Service. Honda Customer Service Rep, "Lupe" refused to transfer me to a supervisor for further discussion. Prior to this issue, I was planning on purchasing another CRV. Now, I have to reconsider due to the horrible experience with Honda's Customer Service. Honda seems to just want to use their warranty as a selling point and not actually cover the issues that arise.

Obviously, all vehicle manufacturers will inevitably have design problems with their vehicles. How they handle the resolution of these problems is what separates the good companies from the bad.

Honda heater core material and the Honda coolant do not get along. The coolant clogs the heater core requiring a flush at best and a core replacement at worst. No confirmation if the new coolant will have the same issue. Not covered under warranty as the issue is with a fluid. The fact that the fluid is causing the issue is of no consequence. Contacting Honda directly to see if this can be covered.

With the recent cold front that came through, I turned the heater on only to find nothing but cold air blowing on my feet and windshield. I complained about it, and my daughter said that her side was warm and fine. I felt the flood and vents, and sure enough, her side was blowing warm air, while my side felt like the air conditioner was on. I am so done with the crazy stuff that continues to happen with this car. I definitely was sold a brand new, $26,000 lemon from the dealership.
