Auto headlamps are useless. Only thing they do right is come on at dusk. If you want anything else you’re wasting your time. My new truck’s lights will flip high beams on and off constantly. Everything affects them. They also refuse to dim occasionally when I meet other cars at night. As of today during 3 months of ownership the lights have failed to dim on 5 different occasions when meeting cars. This is on a 5 mile stretch of rural non-lighted roads I drive for work. Pitch black farmland area. Road reflectors, the bare aluminum backs of signs, silver guard rails, or basically anything that slightly reflects lights causes them to dim. If I want bright lights I manually activate them and override the system.
Unfortunately the headlight switch reverts to auto lamps when the switch is shut off. Switch is designed to operate in auto mode and is spring loaded. I’ve online researched it and it appears from comments on Honda Ridgeline forums a change was made around the 2018-2020 model and since then it’s been an issue. The 2020 Honda Odyssey I traded for the Ridgeline had a perfectly fine auto headlamp system. It can be done. My dealership told me when I called about it there’s no fix and if I bring it in they will test it and no problem will show up. They have numerous complaints on them. Honda needs to engineer a fix.
Basically useless. Roadside reflectors deactivate it. Even on dark country roads I've never had it stay on for more than a few seconds. Very disappointed as I was looking forward to this feature which is new to me. I religiously use Hi-beams whenever I can.
I turn the auto headlight setting on and start driving in the dark and the high beams won't come on with no other veichles on the road. Then all of a sudden the high beams come on and then turn off almost immediatley. Then I drive for a while and they come back on and when a car comes towards me they don't go out. The ploblem is they work so sporadically that they aren't safe to turn on. I was told by the service manager and Honda customer service that this problem has been going on since 2022 and their is no fix. They are working on it .I guess since 2022 and still have no fix.
