I have a 2004 X-type Jaguar and the air bag light on the drivers side will not go off. I had it checked out only to find out that should I get in an accident the air bag will not deploy. The dealership wants around $1500 to repair it. I am hoping it is a recall.

The contact owns a 2004 Jaguar X- type. The driver's side air bag is coming out of the dashboard. The air bag is supposed to be inside the horn; however, it is located approximately one inch from where it should be located. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the heat in the vehicle caused the air bag to pop out. The air bag needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that it was not a safety issue, but rather a cosmetic issue. The contact believes that the manufacturer should replace the air bag for free. The failure mileage was 43,000 and current mileage was 44,000. Updated 12/12/08 there was cosmetic damage to the air bag cover. Updated 12/15/08.

I was involved in what ultimately could have been a catastrophic accident while driving my 2004 Jaguar X-type. I was driving through an intersection at about 20 mph, when a 2006 Chevy Impala hit me doing about 50 mph. The Impala slammed into my right front quarter panel and passenger door. Hitting me so hard my car tilted up into the air. (I thought I was going to roll, ) when my car landed back on all four wheels, I was hit again in the right rear quarter panel. I was then pushed into a telephone pole. Almost dead center of my steering wheel. Needless to say, both cars were totaled due to massive damage. The only air bag that deployed was the passenger dash airbag. I was slammed into the steering wheel twice. The drivers airbag did not deploy. Neither did the passenger side airbag, despite being hit twice on the passenger side. If I had been an elderly or less physically fit person I very possibly could have been killed. I called Jaguar for an explanation, and was repeatedly blown off.
