First the passenger belt was hard to latch and not being recognized. Then about a month later the drivers side started doing the same thing. I hate driving the Jeep now as I have to put up with the annoying chime. If I could find that chime I'd tear it out. Can't believe there wasn't a recall on this as most other Jeep owners I've talked to have had the same problem.

Last year my driver side seat belt buckle became hard to latch; with the seat belt latched into the buckle the airbag warning light stays on. The most annoying part is the fasten your seat belt warning beeping sound will not stop beeping. It does not matter at what speed your going. For a while you could maneuver and hold the seat belt into the buckle to stop the beeping but this quickly became not an option. Not only is this dangerous to drive my vehicle but my hand/wrist hurt like hell after holding the seat belt into the buckle.

I took the vehicle into the dealer and they quoted me for just the part around $348 and told me seat belts are not covered under warranty at approximately 80,000 miles. I contacted the manufacturer and they were unwilling to assist me with the cost of repair or info on how to turn off the fasten your seat belt beeping sound that drives you nuts. I find this unbelievable. There should be a way to shut off that horrible sound. After driving around one day with the constant beeping sound I wanted to trade my vehicle in for a different vehicle. I didn't do this because my vehicle was paid off and in good condition. I didn't want car payments.

Now at approximately 105,000 miles my passenger side seat belt is doing the same exact thing. 4/5/17

This is clearly a parts malfunction and not a user issue. This should be a recall because it's dealing with both restraint systems seat belt and airbags. If you bypass(shut off) the fasten your seat belt warning sound you risk the airbags not deploying. You would think the manufacture would want to help with this issue because I could see people trading their vehicle in for a different brand.

We have been pushing in the release button, but now this is not working. May have to start holding in while driving, not a good thing. This started with just one belt then went to both front belts and the chime would stop. This morning it did not stop except by holding it in place. All in all this has been a very good vehicle but I hate to have to pay for this to be fixed.

The seat belt will not latch without pressing the button in. Then the sensor would not stop. Two separate events. Started with the driver side then the passage side. This issue should be a recall item. The seat belt is very important part of the car equipment .

In order to check it is a $69.00 fee. Then the order is made and the $69.00 is deducted from your total bill of approximately $497.00. You have to purchase the whole unit and not just the seat belt. The seatbelt will latch when you hold down on the red button and then shove into the slot. The car will continue to ding until you get onto the free way and then stop one you get off. So annoying.

I bought this Jeep in March on 2012 , then few months after buying it the drivers seat belt stopped latching unless i depressed it to make it latch then a month or so later the passengers seat belt started doing the same thing. But since then the seat belt chime started going off and the seat belt light on the dash started staying on too. At first you could unbuckle the passengers seat belt and rebuckle and it would stop but now if someone is in the passengers seat it it doesn't stop. Now it doesn't matter whether someone is in the passengers seat or not, It will come on with just the driver in the seat and i always buckle up. The chime will keep going off for a long time but it will eventually stop for awhile but the seat belt light will stay on but if i stop at a light and start going again it will start chiming again. it is very annoying and the latches is aggravating to have to depress them to latch them. There should be a recall on these 2006 jeep Grand Charokees ,. I've never had a problem with one until now and it doesn't have this problem till your out of warranty, then it has to come out of our pocket. Mine is still not fixed... not happy this is my 3rd Jeep Grand Charokee to own have been wanting to get a 4th one but it may depend on how this is handled. It seems like it would be a recall on this since I'm not the only one having this problem.
