CarComplaints.com Notes: There are just too many engine stalls or shuts down while driving reports to feel good about the Sorento. Especially when those things happen, on average, at just over 32,000 miles. Hopefully things will change.

The passenger side back seat leaver has been hard to use since I got the car. After a year I went to lay the back seat down and the handle broke. Now the seat won't lay down.

Sorento LX 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150 miles

From the day we purchased the vehicle, I noticed the lever to fold the rear seat down to allow access to the 3rd seats we nearly impossible to get it to release, almost to the point I thought I was going to break the plastic lever. We complained to the dealership and they told us, that was the way it was designed and there was nothing they could do. I searched the internet and found that this was a common problem with older Sorentos as well. And the "fix" was to apply generous amounts of grease to the locking mechanisms at the base of the seat to get them to release a little easier. So, while this is not a fix, it is a work around and certainly makes it easier to fold the seat down.

2nd row pass. side seat back release jams

I was able to get a large screw driver and pry the release to unlatch the seat back. After I did this a few times over the course of a several months, I was able to use the latch somewhat normally again without the screw driver.
