The contact owns a 2005 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that the vehicle started smelling of gasoline fuel. The contact also stated that it was difficult to refuel the vehicle. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 05V212000 (fuel system, gasoline), but when speaking with the manufacturer, was advised that the vehicle had been checked in August 2005 under the recall campaign and was determined to be fine. The repair was never actually performed and the vehicle had 1,040 miles at the time. The failure mileage was 21,000 and the current mileage was 22,000. Updated 06/18/13*ljupdated 06/21/2013

I was driving and the vehicle would not brake, and steered right while driving 40-50 mph, hitting the curb and almost collided with another vehicle. Definite defect in the steering/fuel/brakes/electronicstabilitycontrol, and other minor mechanical malfunctions.

The contact owns a 2005 Kia Sportage. While driving approximately 50 mph the engine rpms increased excessively and the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral and was able to restart the vehicle. The failure recurred at different speeds intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 05V212000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage) but was advised by the manufacturer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

When gas tank is filled, gas leaks out of pipe leading to gas tank. Which in my opinion could cause a fire and/or explosion. Car is currently at the dealer to correct the problem.
