Problem is key will not turn so can not start car. This occurs maybe every two weeks. So then I must try repeatedly to turn the steering wheel, to left, to right, move up etc. Many tries and is frustrating, as may take many minutes for the key to finally turn. So far each time key finally does turn after several minutes fighting the steering wheel..
Spoke to KIA service mgr., and he says is common problem with 2010 Sportage, and maybe others. He seems to know no solution. He does say as prevention after turning off the motor, be very careful to not turn the steering wheel even a little as you exit the car. It seems that moving the wheel when the motor is off will result in the key freezing later when one next wants to start the KIA, he says.
When the key does not turn, I tried using the alternate key but not help. Both keys will not turn.
