Looking to do the repair myself since the local dealership charges are excessive. I see several YouTubes and the offending part is located on the side of he glove box. When I examine he car, it appears to be below the glove box. Can anyone help?

Sportage LX

Apparently, I'm not the only one who's 2016 Kia Sportage has a faulty AC actuator. When on recycle, mine knocks on and off, especially if I'm on the highway and take my foot off the gas. Why? I have no idea, but it shouldn't happen with a car that young and driven like an old lady. I work from home and hardly drive the car. It's absurd that I'm having to look this stuff up already.

Sportage LX AWD 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,500 miles

around mid-June, around 7500 miles. turned on the AC and switched the air inlet to circulate, and there it was, small banging more like slapping the dashboard 2-3 times a second.

Due to my experience with cars, I was almost sure with what is going on:

- I switched the inlet back to (Fresh) position, - I removed the glovebox and the cabin air filter, - I looked through the filter opening with the sky light coming inside from the fresh air mesh on the front. - I switched the control to (Circulate) position,

And there it is, The door (flapper) closes but does not stop at the edge, instead, it keeps banging against the seating edge for a few seconds before it stops.

From what I know, this does not happen in brand new cars with around 7500 miles on them, unless Kia decided to use a cheaper-than-it-is-usually actuator on this car.

I called the dealership, and they insisted to bring the car in to troubleshoot and I do not have a substitute ride.

Tried to schedule online, looks like the onle empty slot they have for this issue is between 8:00am-1:15.

now I have to take a day off (no-pay) just to get the tech to look at it, and maybe keeping the car at the service until the unusual part gets there, which means possible car rental for a few days (more spending)

I will update the post after visiting the dealership and see if warranty covers that, could someone show me how how to edit or update the complaint?

Update from May 25, 2017: FIXED, visited the dealership and they found it was the flapper actuator. the (back) ordered the part and I took it back and replaced it. now the noise is gone.

Update from Jul 17, 2017: Now at 13k miles and everything looks good.
