problem #1

MKX Reserve V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,000 miles

The memory seats are not holding their programming and on occasion, default to the completely forward position. Sometimes, I'll get in the car after leaving it overnight and the seat doesn't return to the right position (I didn't shrink or grow 2 inches overnight). A few times, I've hit the memory button for the position I want and the seat will instead move all the way forward pinning my chest to the steering wheel and knees into the dash. A few times, I've put the car in park, turned the vehicle OFF and instead of the seat moving back (per the easy access function), the seat moves all the way forward, again pinning me to the steering wheel and dash.

I reported this issue to the dealer and the service rep first said it was a problem they couldn't reproduce. The next time I reported it, the same service rep said he thought I only wanted them to re-program the memory positions 2 and 3 and tried to return the vehicle to me. After a spirited exchange with the service manager, I learned that there IS in fact, a service bulletin about this exact problem!! The solution is a software update! Argh...

I've been assured that after the software update, if it happens again, the memory seat system will be replaced completely. Sigh... what a pain but I do appreciate the Service Manager calling me, taking ownership and divulging that there's a service bulletin about this exact issue.
